Joseph Young (1797–1881) was an early leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; brother to Brigham Young. Joseph Young
__NOTOC__Joseph Young (April 7, 1797 – July 16, 1881) was an early convert to the Latter Day Saint movement and was a missionary and longtime general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). He was an elder brother of Brigham Young. Early life Young was born in Hopkinton, Massachusetts on April 7, 1797, the seventh child born to John Young and Abigail Howe. In 1830, while he was a preacher for the Methodist Church in Upper Canada, Young was introduced to the doctrine of the Church of Christ by his younger brother Brigham. Joseph eventually abandoned the Methodist faith and was baptized a member of the Church of Christ by Daniel Bowen in Columbia, Pennsylvania, on April 6, 1832; Brigham followed his brother and became a member of the church one week later. Joseph Young (artist)
Joseph Young (1919–2007) was an artist well known for his public artwork, which included mosaic murals, stained glass windows, monuments and public sculptures in granite, concrete, and bronze. Over the course of his career Young completed over sixty commissions for civic, church, synagogue and other public spaces, as well as privately collected works in oil, mosaic, ceramics and other media. His largest work is the mosaic West Apse of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., entitled "The Woman Clothed With The Sun." Joseph Young (born 1982, in Goose Creek, South Carolina, USA) is an American orchestra conductor. Biography Joseph Young serves as the Music Director of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director of Ensembles for the Peabody Conservatory, Resident Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra – USA at Carnegie Hall, and sits on the board of New Music, USA. He studied conducting at Peabody Conservatory under Gustav Meier and Markand Thakar, graduating in 2009. Young participated in a conducting workshop at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and subsequently became a conducting student of Marin Alsop. In the 2021-2022 season, Young traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa to inaugurate the newly formed Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra and led the premiere of William Menefield and Sheila Williams' ''Fierce'' with the Cincinnati Opera. Joseph Young (trade Unionist)
Joseph Young (born 1858) was a British trade union leader. Young worked in a clothing factory in Leeds. He was a founder member of the Leeds Wholesale Clothing Operatives' Union in 1889, and was elected as its first general secretary. Employers in Leeds announced that any members of the union would be blacklisted, but Young avoided this by recording membership in secret. Although the ''Factory Times'' complained that it should not have avoided confrontation in this way, the tactic proved successful, and by 1893 the union had more than 1,000 members. From the start, Young had hoped to expand the union across the UK, and in 1894 he negotiated a merger with the Bristol Clothing Operatives' Union, forming the Amalgamated Union of Wholesale Clothing Operatives (AUCO).
