Joseph Wol Modesto Ukelo is a South Sudanese politician. As of 2011, he is the general secretary of the South Sudan Communist Party. In 1989 he was appointed Minister of Education in the Southern Council. He contested the 2010 South Sudan Legislative Assembly election, from the Wau North Payam constituency as a candidate of the Sudanese Communist Party. He finished in second place, with 4,701 votes (16.4%). South Sudan (; din, Paguot Thudän), officially the Republic of South Sudan ( din, Paankɔc Cuëny Thudän), is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia, Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Kenya. Its population was estimated as 12,778,250 in 2019. Juba is the capital and largest city. It gained independence from Sudan on 9 July 2011, making it the most recent sovereign state or country with widespread recognition as of 2022. The Communist Party of South Sudan ( ar, حزب الشيوعي جنوب السودان, ''Hizb Al-Shuyu'i Janub Al-Sudan'') is a communist party in South Sudan. It was formed in June 2011, as the southern branches of the Sudanese Communist Party separated themselves from their mother party ahead of South Sudanese independence. The formation of the new party was declared at a meeting at the Sudanese Communist Party office in Khartoum. Joseph Wol Modesto is the general secretary of the party. Wau (Arabic: واو ''Wāw''; also known as Wow, Waw, or Wau Town) is a city in northwestern South Sudan, on the western bank of the Jur River, that serves as capital for Western Bahr el Ghazal (and formerly Wau State). It lies approximately northwest of the capital Juba. A culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse urban center and trading hub, Wau is also the former headquarters of Western Bahr el Ghazal. History Wau was initially established by the French as Fort Desaix and later was established as a ''zariba'' (fortified base) by slave-traders in the 19th century. Sudanese Communist Party
The Sudanese Communist Party ( abbr. SCP; ar, الحزب الشيوعي السوداني, Al-Hizb al-Shuyui al-Sudani) is a communist party in Sudan. Founded in 1946, it was a major force in Sudanese politics in the early post-independence years, and was one of the two most influential communist parties in the Arab world, the other being the Iraqi Communist Party. In 1971, President Gaafar Nimeiry launched a wave of repression against the party after a failed coup implicated the involvement of a number of communist military officers. In such party organizations, the committee would typically be made up of delegates elected at a party congress.
