Joseph Warren Yost
Joseph Warren Yost (1847–1923) was a prominent architect from Ohio whose works included many courthouses and other public buildings. Some of his most productive years were spent as a member of the Yost and Packard partnership with Frank Packard. Later in his career he joined Albert D'Oench at the New York City based firm D'Oench & Yost. A number of his works are listed for their architecture in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Early life Joseph Warren Yost was born in Clarington, Ohio in 1847, son of Joel and Nancy Yost. Yost began architectural studies in 1869 under the direction of Joseph Fairfax, an architect from Wheeling, West Virginia. After finishing his apprenticeship he started his own architecture firm in Bellaire. Life in Columbus Yost made a decision in 1882 to move his firm to Columbus with the hope of more lucrative contracts. The move was a success as his firm became more in demand. Clarington, Ohio
Clarington is a village (United States)#Ohio, village in Monroe County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 280 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. History Clarington was described in 1833 as having two stores, one tavern, one physician and ten residential houses. During the mid-1800s, Clarington grew considerably and soon was a booming river port town with nearly 1,500 residents. The village boasted a cigar factory, blacksmith shop, restaurants, lodgings, and employed many residents at the local boat yard. Mozena Brothers Boat Yard designed and built many western river steam "packet-boats" on site in Clarington near the mouth of Sunfish Creek. Most famous of these boats was the 1912 built Liberty. The Perry County Courthouse is a historic government building in the city of New Lexington, Ohio, United States. Built near the end of the nineteenth century after the end of a county seat war, it is the fifth courthouse to serve Perry County, and it has been named a historic site because of its imposing architecture. History After Perry County was established in 1817, the county commissioners and courts met for their first two years at John Fink's tavern on the eastern side of Somerset at the corner of Main Street (the Zane Trace) and High Street. Broad Street United Methodist Church (Columbus, Ohio)
Broad Street United Methodist Church is a historic Methodist church in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. This church is one of five on East Broad Street built around the year 1900. It was built in 1885 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The church was designed by Yost & Packard with green serpentine stone. This stone was replaced by Rogers Krajnak Architects with synthetic stone that preserved the original green color. Miami County Courthouse And Power Station
The Miami County Courthouse is an historic building in Troy, Ohio, United States. Built in 1885, it was designed by noted Ohio (and later New York) architect Joseph W. Yost, who also designed the similar Belmont County Courthouse built at the same time in St. Clairsville. It has high arched windows and Corinthian columns supporting the outthrust corners and main entrance. A flight of stairs runs to the main entrance. The central pediment rests on an arch supported by Corinthian columns. The corners of the building thrust out and support a pediment, on top of each rests a tower crowned with an urn-shaped finial. A central tower rises from the middle of the building supporting the clock tower and dome, and a statue of justice stands at the very top. The W New York Union Square is a 270-room, 21-story boutique hotel operated by W Hotels at the northeast corner of Park Avenue South and 17th Street, across from Union Square in Manhattan, New York. The Carnegie Library at Adams and Columbus Ave. in Sandusky, Ohio, also known as the Sandusky Public Library, was built in 1901. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It was designed by architect Albert D'Oench. Fundraising for a library was begun in 1886 by a Library Funding Association. It is a -story building.
