Joseph Francis Shea
Joseph Francis Shea (September 5, 1925 – February 14, 1999) was an American aerospace engineer and NASA manager. Born in the New York City borough of the Bronx, he was educated at the University of Michigan, receiving a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics in 1955. After working for Bell Labs on the radio inertial guidance system of the Titan I intercontinental ballistic missile, he was hired by NASA in 1961. As Deputy Director of NASA's Office of Manned Space Flight, and later as head of the Apollo Spacecraft Program Office, Shea played a key role in shaping the course of the Apollo program, helping to lead NASA to the decision in favor of lunar orbit rendezvous and supporting "all up" testing of the Saturn V rocket. Joe Shea (February 7, 1947 – October 19, 2016) was editor-in-chief of ''The American Reporter'', the first daily Internet newspaper, started on April 10, 1995. Shea was the named plaintiff in the landmark First Amendment to the United States Constitution, First Amendment case, ''Shea v Reno'', which ended with the Communications Decency Act and its proposed censorship of the Internet declared unconstitutional in Manhattan Federal Court and affirmed in the U. S. Supreme Court in 1997. He is a noted community activist whose efforts to clean up a dangerous neighborhood in Hollywood, California were praised by authorities as a national model for Neighborhood Watch. Joseph Gerald Shea (; September 20, 1919– August 4, 2005) was an American law enforcement official who was a special agent for the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Early life and education Shea was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on September 20, 1919. He was the third child in a family of four sons born to Frank Shea and his Irish-born wife, Alice Mary. The family moved in with their paternal grandmother after his mother's death, when he was eight. Shea joined the Army in 1942, after working at the Ritz Carlton Hotel and the Boston Navy Yard. He served in the 36th Division as a First Sergeant. He joined troops being sent to Europe on the Queen Mary, which was being used to transport troops overseas. The ship nearly went down at sea when hit by a rogue wave, but it righted itself and the 15,000 troops aboard were safe. He served in North Africa, Italy, and France during World War II. Joseph Hooker Shea (July 24, 1863 – December 23, 1928) was the United States Ambassador to Chile from 1916 to 1921. Biography He was born on July 24, 1862. Shea was a member of the Indiana Senate from 1897 to 1899. He was a judge of the Fortieth Judicial Circuit of Indiana from 1906 to 1912, then a judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals from 1913 to 1916. Joseph Shea (1829–1881) was a Jesuit priest and president of St. John's College (now Fordham University) from 1868 to 1874. Early years Joseph Shea was born in Quebec, Lower Canada on December 31, 1829. At the age of 21, he entered the Jesuits, and upon completing his course of studies, became an ordained priest. St. John's College He became the tenth president of St. John's College (now known as Fordham University) in 1868, and held the office until 1874. Shea's tenure was notable for his introduction in 1869 of reforms to the curriculum, disciplinary practices, and student housing, largely in response to student dissatisfaction. In 1868, students had organized a conspiracy to transfer to the College of St. Francis Xavier during the semester break.
