Joseph Shaw (legal Writer)
Joseph Shaw (1671–1733) was an English legal writer. Life He was the son of John Shaw of London. He matriculated from Trinity College, Oxford, on 10 June 1687, and in 1695, he entered the Middle Temple. About 1700 he made a tour through Holland, Flanders, and part of France, and embodied his observations in a series of letters to Anthony Ashley Cooper, third earl of Shaftesbury, whose friendship and patronage he enjoyed. The letters were published in 1709. They contain details on those countries during the interval of peace which followed the Treaty of Ryswick. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1703. In later life Shaw settled at Epsom in Surrey, and devoted himself to legal study. In 1728 he published ''The Practical Justice of the Peace'', which attained its sixth edition in 1756. Joseph Shaw (Christ's College)
Rev. Joseph Shaw (16 December 1784, Barton-in-Westmorland – 1 June 1859, Cambridge) was Master of Christ's College, Cambridge. He tutored Charles Darwin at Cambridge in 1828. Shaw was the son of the Rev. Edward Shaw, headmaster of Loughborough Grammar School, where he received his early education. Shaw was admitted as a Sizar at Christ's College, Cambridge in 1803, gaining a BA 1807, and an MA in 1810. He was a Fellow of the College between 1807 and 1849, when he was elected Master in succession to John Graham. However, he resigned the office before his term of grace had expired, in the conscientious feeling that his age rendered him unsuited to responsibilities of the office. Westminster is a city in northern Maryland, United States. It is the seat of Carroll County. The city's population was 18,590 at the 2010 census. Westminster is an outlying community within the Baltimore-Towson, MD MSA, which is part of a greater Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia, DC-MD-VA-WV CSA. Joe Shaw born 20 February 1980 in Birmingham, West Midlands, England is a rugby union player and coach. Playing career Born in the West Midlands, Shaw played for Sale Sharks as a youngster. He won England representative honours at Under-18s, 19s and 21s, and was in the full England sevens squad in 2001. Shaw was a utility player, his broad range of skills saw him play at fullback, in the centres and on the wing. Shaw joined the Newcastle Falcons in the Guinness Premiership from Northampton Saints in the summer of 2002. A memorable moment for many will be the try he scored in the Falcons' victorious 2004 Powergen Cup win over former club Sale at Twickenham. Joseph Ebenezer Shaw (7 May 1883 – September 1963) was an English football player and coach. Career Born in Bury, Lancashire, Shaw first played for his home club, Bury, and then Accrington Stanley, helping the side win the Lancashire Combination. Shaw then moved south to London, joining Woolwich Arsenal in 1907. He made his debut against Preston North End on 28 September 1907, and had soon become a regular in the Arsenal side; he was first-choice left back for the next seven seasons. Although the club had shown early promise since their promotion to the First Division in 1904, with two successive FA Cup semi-final appearances in the seasons before Shaw's arrival, they soon quickly faded. After a high of sixth place in 1908-09, Woolwich Arsenal soon found themselves in trouble, and were relegated in 1912-13. Joseph Shaw (23 June 1928 – 18 November 2007) was an English footballer who played for Sheffield United between 1945 and 1966. He also worked as a manager, being in charge of York City from 1967–1968 and Chesterfield from 1973–1976. Career Shaw made 714 appearances for Sheffield United in all competitions, including 632 in the League and 53 FA Cup ties, all three being club records. Shaw was a former Durham County schoolboy who joined United from Upton Colliery as an inside-forward and later successfully converted into a half back. He played for United in two wartime fixtures in the Football League North during the 1944–45 season. The first game was a 3–1 victory over Huddersfield Town on 2 April 1945 when Shaw was just 16 years and 285 days old. Joseph Tweed Shaw (August 30, 1883 – July 12, 1944) was a Canadian politician. He served in the House of Commons of Canada from 1921 to 1925 as an independent Labour Member of Parliament (MP), and later became an MLA and leader of the Alberta Liberal Party. Early life Shaw was born at Port Arthur, Ontario (later Thunder Bay), and received his early education in Calgary, Alberta. He later received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Michigan, and returned to Alberta to work as a barrister. He served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I from 1916 to 1918. In religion, he was a Presbyterian. Joseph Carl Shaw (March 31, 1955 – January 11, 1985) was an American convicted murderer who was the first person to be executed by the state of South Carolina after the U.S. Supreme Court reauthorized the use of capital punishment by the states in 1976. Shaw was executed for the 1977 murders of three people in Richland County, South Carolina. One of his accomplices, James Terry Roach, was also sentenced to death, and was executed in 1986.
