Joseph Sarkis
Joseph Sarkis ( ar, جوزيف سركيس; born 1949) is a Lebanese politician and former minister of tourism. He is a prominent member of the Lebanese Forces. From 1988 to 1994 he was member of the Kataeb Political Bureau. He distanced himself from that party after its leadership took a pro-Syrian stance. He became an activist in the Lebanese Forces despite it being banned. Lebanese Forces
The Lebanese Forces ( ar, القوات اللبنانية '')'' is a Lebanese Christian-based political party and former militia during the Lebanese Civil War. It currently holds 19 of the 128 seats in Lebanon's parliament and is therefore the largest party in parliament. The organization was created in 1976 by Pierre and Bachir Gemayel, Camille Chamoun, and other party leaders during the Lebanese Civil War. It was initially an umbrella organization coordinating all the right-wing party militias of the Lebanese Front and served as the main resistance force of the front. The Kataeb Regulatory Forces provided the largest share of fighters, and the Kataeb Party had the largest share on the council. The Kataeb Party ( ar, حزب الكتائب اللبنانية '), also known in English as the Phalanges, is a Christian political party in Lebanon. The party played a major role in the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990).
