Joseph Raymond Jackson
Joseph Raymond Jackson (August 30, 1880 – August 29, 1969) was an associate judge of the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals. Education and career Born on August 30, 1880, in Albany, New York, Jackson received an Artium Baccalaureus degree in 1900 from Manhattan College and read law in 1907. He was Principal of the Industrial School in Butte, Montana from 1903 to 1910. He was county attorney for Silver Bow County, Montana from 1917 to 1920. He was a Judge of the Montana District Court for the Second Judicial District from 1920 to 1925. He was a Commissioner for the Montana Supreme Court from 1921 to 1922. He was in private practice in New York City from 1926 to 1934. He was assistant attorney general for the Customs Division of the United States Department of Justice in New York City from 1934 to 1937. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges.
