Joseph Nemours Pierre-Louis
Joseph Nemours Pierre-Louis (October 24, 1900 – April 23, 1966) served as acting President of Haiti from 1956 to 1957. Pierre-Louis, who studied physics and law, was first a professor of physics at the Lycée Philippe Guerrier. After working as a law professor from 1928 to 1937, he became a judge of the Municipal Court of Cap-Haïtien. He became president of the Supreme Court of Haiti after the revolution of January 1946, a post he held until his election to the Senate of Haiti, Senate. After the departure of Paul Magloire in December 1956, Pierre-Louis announced in a radio address on 12 December 1956 that under the Constitution he became interim president of Haiti. He also announced elections for April 1957 and ordered the release of former presidential candidate and wealthy plantation owner Louis Déjoie and other political prisoners. Pierre Joseph Louis Déjoie (23 February 1896 – 11 July 1969, Port-au-Prince, Haiti) was a wealthy Haitian sugar planter, industrialist, agricultural engineer, landowner and politician. Early years Déjoie was a descendant of a French slave-holder, and former Haitian President Fabre Geffrard, who overthrew the Faustin empire. Senate Of Haiti
The Senate (french: Sénat, ) is the upper house of Haiti's bicameral legislature, the Haitian Parliament. The lower house of the Haitian Parliament is the Chamber of Deputies. The Senate consists of thirty seats, with three members from each of the ten administrative departments. Prior to the creation of the department of Nippes in 2003, there were twenty-seven seats. Senators are elected by popular vote to six-year terms, with one-third elected every two years. There are no term limits for Senators; they may be re-elected indefinitely. After the elections of 2000, twenty-six of the then twenty-seven seats were held by Jean-Bertrand Aristide's Fanmi Lavalas party. The Senate was not in session following the overthrow of Aristide's government in February 2004. Paul Magloire
Paul Eugène Magloire (July 19, 1907 – July 12, 2001), nicknamed Kanson Fe, was the Haitian president from 1950 to 1956. Early life Paul Eugène Magloire ne Paul Vincent Magloire, 30th president of Haiti and 33rd head of state (ephemeral military governments were excluded from the count), was born on July 19, 1907, in Quartier-Morin, commune of Cap-Haitien, in the North Departement. Paul was the son of a high-ranking General Eugene Francois Magloire, and Marie-Philomene Mathieu. He attended Lycee Philippe Guerrier. On April 18, 1936, he wed Yolette Leconte, a direct descendant of Jean-Jacques Dessalines; the marriage lasted till her death in 1981. Military career On September 1, 1930, Paul joined the army. The Supreme Court of Haiti (french: Cour de Cassation) is the highest court in the Haitian legal system. The Supreme Court building is located in Port-au-Prince. History From 1806–1817, the Senate of Haiti served judicial functions. The Supreme Court was first formed in 1817 under Petion's 1816 constitution as a body of a grand judge, dean, six judges and a government commissioner, all of whom were to be appointed for life.
