Joseph Lowe
Joseph Lowe (1845-1899), aka "Rowdy Joe" Lowe, was a gambler and saloon keeper/owner of the Old West. Although sometimes described as a gunfighter, he did not historically fit into that category. Originally from Illinois, Lowe and his wife Katherine, aka "Rowdy Kate", moved to Kansas following the Civil War. The couple relocated to Newton, Kansas in 1871 and opened a tavern and brothel there. Kate sneaked off to a rival brothel in 1872 with a shooter. Joe found out and shot the man. The controversy forced the pair to relocate to the Wichita area where they bought another saloon in Delano, Kansas. This business venture that at first was extremely profitable. Sam Bass (outlaw)
Sam Bass (July 21, 1851 ‒ July 21, 1878) was a 19th-century American train robber, outlaw, and outlaw gang leader. Notably, he was a member of a gang of six that robbed a Union Pacific train in Nebraska of $60,000 in newly minted gold from San Francisco, California. To date, this is the biggest train robbery ever committed in the USA. He died as a result of wounds sustained in a gun battle with law enforcement officers. Edward T. "Red" Beard, (c. 1828-November 11, 1873) was a gambler and saloon keeper of the Old West. Biography Beard is the son of the man who first settled Beardstown, Illinois. Originally from Illinois, Beard settled in Virginia, and was for a period a man of wealth, having married well. In 1861 at the outbreak of the Civil War, Beard promptly left his life behind and moved west. Traveling through California, Oregon and Colorado he developed a nasty reputation as being good with a gun, and having a bad temper.
