Joseph Horace Lewis (October 29, 1824 – July 6, 1904) was an American lawyer, military leader and politician. He served as a brigadier general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War, and later a U.S. Representative from Kentucky and justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, the court of last resort in Kentucky at the time. Joseph "Hungry Joe" Lewis (1850 – March 22, 1902) was an American criminal and swindler. He was regarded as one of the top confidence and bunco men in the United States during the late 19th century whose success was matched only by contemporaries such as Tom O'Brien and Charles P. Joseph Lewis (June 11, 1889 – November 4, 1968) was an American freethinker and atheist activist, publisher, and litigator. During the mid-twentieth century, he was one of America's most conspicuous public atheists, the other being Emanuel Haldeman-Julius. Born in Montgomery, Alabama to a Jewish family, he was forced by poverty to leave school at the age of nine to find employment. He read avidly, becoming self-educated. Lewis developed his ideas from reading, among others, Robert G. Ingersoll, whose published works made him aware of Thomas Paine. He was first impressed by atheism after having read a large volume of lectures of Ingersoll devoted to his idol Paine, which was brought to their house by his older brother. He later credited Paine's ''The Age of Reason'' with helping him abandon theism. Bud Lewis (golfer)
Joseph "Bud" Lewis (August 30, 1908 – November 22, 2011) was an American professional golfer. Lewis became a member of the PGA in May 1931, and became the first member in PGA history to reach 80 years of membership. Lewis won two major golf tournaments, the Philadelphia Open Championship in 1942 and 1950. Lewis qualified for the PGA Championship four times, and the U.S. Open three times. Starting in 1943, Lewis served as the Pro at Manufacturer's Golf & Country Club for 37 years. He was inducted into the Philadelphia section of the PGA Hall of Fame in 1996. He died in Wyncote, Pennsylvania of natural causes on November 22, 2011. His wife Regina had predeceased him. He was survived by two sons, a daughter, 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Lewis started Newtown Helps Rwanda, a charity that raised money for survivors of the 1994 Rwandan genocide as well as former child soldiers in Uganda.
