Joseph Hughes (footballer)
Clifford Joseph Gwendy Hughes (27 June 1891 – 1966) was a footballer who played as goalkeeper for Tufnell Park, South Weald, West Ham United, Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic. Club career After spells at Tufnell Park and South Weald, Hughes joined West Ham United in 1911 and made his debut against rivals Millwall in a 2–1 victory on 4 November 1911. Hughes played over 100 times in all competitions for West Ham before requesting manager Syd King transfer list him after remarking on Ted Hufton's ability during a trial, King obliged and sold Hughes to Bolton Wanderers for £350. Hughes' career was interrupted due to the outbreak of World War I, with Hughes playing for Chelsea in that period. Hughes joined Charlton Athletic in the summer of 1921 in time for the club's debut Football League campaign where he made 19 appearances. Joseph Hughes, George Cross, GC (1 September 1926 – 21 March 1946) was a British soldier and a recipient of the George Cross, awarded for the gallantry he displayed on 21 March 1946 in Lyemun Barracks in Hong Kong. Notice of his award appeared in the ''London Gazette'' of 26 June 1947. Military career The 19-year-old Hughes was driving a 3-ton truck full of cleared ammunition and explosives into the magazine area when it caught fire. Knowing it could explode at any moment, he tried to remove the burning camouflage netting and, when that failed, tackled the developing blaze with fire extinguishers. Despite his efforts the lorry exploded and Hughes died two days later of his wounds. Joseph Hughes (musician)
Joseph Hughes is a British bassist and songwriter, best known for being a member of the punk band the Flys and the new wave duo the Lover Speaks. Background Hughes began his musical career in the mid-1970s as bassist in the band Midnight Circus. In 1976, the band evolved into the punk group the Flys, which also featured Neil O'Connor and David Freeman. The band recorded a number of singles, two EPs; ''Bunch of Fives'' (1977) and ''Four from the Square'' (1980), and two studio albums; ''Waikiki Beach Refugees'' (1978) and ''Own'' (1979) After the band split in 1980, Hughes went on to play bass in Tearjerkers, a band formed by Roddy Radiation. In 1985, Hughes reunited with Freeman, who had suggested to him that they form a duo which became the Lover Speaks. The pair began writing material and also recruited the assistance of keyboardist Barry Gilbert. Joseph Hughes (18 September 1905 – 20 January 1960) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny (Dáil constituency), Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1948 to 1960. Hughes worked as a farmer in County Kilkenny before entering politics. He was elected as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála, TD at the 1948 Irish general election, 1948 general election for Carlow–Kilkenny (Dáil constituency), Carlow–Kilkenny, and held the seat until his death in 1960, aged 54. Joseph Henry Hughes (April 14, 1857 – August 5, 1917) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was the mayor of Brandon, Manitoba in 1914. Biography Born on April 14, 1857 at London, Ontario, a son of Joseph C. Hughes and Jane McAndless, brother of Anthony James Hughes and Thomas Alfred Martin Hughes. His father farmed in Middlesex County until 1903 then retired to Brandon. J. H. Hughes was educated at Middlesex County and the Toronto Normal School (1874). He taught school in 1875, then went into business as a general merchant at Iderton. He moved to Brandon in 1882, joining in partnership with T. H. Patrick of Souris in a lumber business, operating yards at Brandon and Souris. The partnership dissolved in 1886, and Hughes went on to establish mills at Rainy River, Ontario. He disposed of his mills in 1901 and established a wholesale and retail lumber business in Brandon on 10th Street, between Rosser and Princess Street. ''The Final Scene'' is the fifth installment in the Nancy Drew point-and-click adventure game series by Her Interactive. The game is available for play on Microsoft Windows platforms. It has an ESRB rating of E for moments of mild violence and peril. Players take on the first-person view of fictional amateur sleuth Nancy Drew and must solve the mystery through interrogation of suspects, solving puzzles, and discovering clues. There are two levels of gameplay, including a Junior and Senior detective mode. Each mode offers a different difficulty level of puzzles and hints, but neither of these changes affect the actual plot of the game. The game is loosely based on a book of the same name, ''The Final Scene'' (1989).
