Joseph Holmes (New Jersey Politician)
Joseph Holmes (December 31, 1736 – August 31, 1809) was an American politician, who served on the New Jersey Legislative Council, the precursor to the New Jersey Senate, between 1777 and 1779. Biography A resident of Upper Freehold Township, Monmouth County, Holmes was first elected to the County Board of Justices and Freeholders, the precursor to the Board of Chosen Freeholders, in 1768, and served until May 1776. He again served from May 1782 to May 1783, from 1786 to 1787, and from 1794 to 1803. He was chairman of the board from May 1794 to May 1795, and from May 1796 to May 1797. He later served on the Upper Freehold Township Committee. Death Holmes died on August 31, 1809, and is buried in the Olde Yellow Meeting House Yard, Upper Freehold Township.John E. Stillwell, M. Erskine Holmes
Joseph Erskine Holmes (born February 1940) is a politician in Northern Ireland. Holmes was educated at Annadale Grammar School and attended Queen's University Belfast.''The Times Guide to the House of Commons: February 1974'', p.53 He chaired the Queen's University Labour Group in the early 1960s, serving alongside Michael Farrell and Eamonn McCann. On graduating, he became a teacher, and stood for the Northern Ireland Labour Party (NILP) in several elections. For Westminster, Holmes stood in Belfast South at the 1966, taking 34.6% and second place, the NILP's best ever result in the seat. At the 1970 general election, he instead stood in Armagh, then back in Belfast South at the February and October 1974 general elections.South Belfast 1973-1984

Joseph John Holmes
Joseph John Holmes (24 May 1866 – 25 April 1942) was an Australian politician who served in both houses of the Parliament of Western Australia. A minister in both governments of George Leake, he was a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1897 to 1904 and again from 1905 to 1906, and later a member of the Legislative Council from 1914 until his death. Early life Holmes was born in Mandurah, Western Australia, to Maria (née Wilson) and Robert Holmes. After leaving school, he worked in Mandurah for a time, and then went to Fremantle, where he founded a meat processing firm with his three brothers. The firm, Holmes Brothers, later expanded to Perth and to the Eastern Goldfields (during the gold rushes of the 1890s), generating large profits. Holmes was elected to the Fremantle Municipal Council in 1893, and served until 1898.

Captain Joseph Warren Holmes (April 1, 1824 – December 12, 1912) was an American sea captain noted for sailing around Cape Horn 84 times and Cape of Good Hope 14 times without a shipwreck or loss of a crewman. He had a 63-year career at sea, including 55 commanding clipper ships and others. He was the captain of more voyages around Cape Horn than anyone else. Joe Holmes (born June 11, 1963) is an American heavy metal guitarist best known for his stint with Ozzy Osbourne between 1995 and 2001. He has also played with Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth and the L.A. band Lizzy Borden in addition to leading his own bands, Terriff, and currently, Farmikos. Biography Born in New Jersey and raised in Los Angeles, Holmes took lessons from guitarist Randy Rhoads in 1979. Holmes formed Terriff in 1983 but left to join Lizzy Borden in 1987, appearing on the ''Visual Lies'' album. He left Lizzy Borden in 1988 and reformed Terriff, staying with the latter group until 1990. Joe Holmes (singer)
Joe Holmes (1906 – 5 January 1978) was a fiddler, lilter and traditional singer from Antrim, Northern Ireland. Biography Holmes's brother Harry had brought him home a present of his first fiddle on his return from the Great War. Holmes's first job was carrying the red warning flag in front of the steam roller, which took him travelling all around the country in a caravan. He took his fiddle on these trips. Some of the fiddle favourites included: "The Boys of Ballycastle", "The Blackberry Blossom", "Royal Charlie", "Wellington’s Medal" and "Rodney’s Glory". Holmes left the roadwork and worked at flax-scutching, first for a small mill near Killyrammer, and then into Milltown Mill, in Ballymoney. He then took up a healthier job as a green-keeper for Ballymoney Bowling club. Joseph Austin Holmes (January 23, 1859 – July 15, 1915) was a geologist and occupational safety and health pioneer, best known as the first director of the U.S. Bureau of Mines. He is the namesake of the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association created in 1916. Early life and education Joseph Austin Holmes was born on January 23, 1859, in Laurens, South Carolina. He was one of 12 children, and attended Laurens Academy. He graduated from Cornell University in 1881 with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture. Holmes also got a LL.D. from the University of North Carolina and a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. Career In 1881, Holmes was appointed as professor of geology and natural history at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
