Joseph A. Foster (born June 10, 1959) is an American politician who served as the 29th Attorney General of New Hampshire from 2013 to 2017. He was formerly a Democratic member of the New Hampshire Senate, representing the 13th district from 2002 until 2008 and served as the State Senate Majority Leader in 2007 and 2008. Previously he was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1994 through 1998. On April 17, 2013 he was confirmed to the office of New Hampshire Attorney General. Joseph Foster (9 March 1844 – 29 July 1905) was an English antiquarian and genealogist whose transcriptions of records held by the Inns of Court and the University of Oxford are still important historical resources. Life and career While his family was originally seated at Cold Hesledon and Hawthorne on the east coast of County Durham, Joseph Foster was born in Sunniside, Sunderland, and developed an interest in genealogy at an early age. Educated in private schools in the neighbouring towns of North Shields, Sunderland, and Newcastle-on-Tyne, Foster inherited his genealogical faculty from his grandfather, Myles Birket Foster (1785-1861), and published his first genealogical work in 1862, entitled "The Pedigree of the Fosters of Cold Hesledon in Co. Joseph Foster Barham I (1729–1789) was the English owner of the Mesopotamia plantation in Westmoreland Parish, Jamaica. Originally Joseph Foster, he took Barham as an additional surname (1750) for Henry Barham M.D., son of Henry Barham F.R.S., in order to inherit his sugar plantations in the Colony of Jamaica. Life He was the son of Colonel John Foster (1681–1731) of Elim, Jamaica and Egham House, Surrey, and his wife Elizabeth Smith. Joseph Foster (September 10, 1759 - December 27, 1839) was an American silversmith, active in Boston. Foster was born in either Boston or Ware, Massachusetts. From 1774 to 1781 he was apprenticed to Benjamin Burt in Boston.
