Alec Williams Badenoch
Alec Williams Badenoch (23 June 1903 – 16 February 1991) was a Scottish urologist. He was Hunterian Professor in 1948, member of the General Medical Council between 1966 and 1972 and of the General Dental Council between 1970 and 1972, president of the Hunterian Society in 1949 and Hunterian Orator in 1957. In 1963 he operated on Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, at the King Edward VII's Hospital. Harold Macmillan
Maurice Harold Macmillan, 1st Earl of Stockton, (10 February 1894 â€“ 29 December 1986) was a British Conservative statesman and politician who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1957 to 1963. Caricatured as "Supermac", he was known for his pragmatism, wit and unflappability. Macmillan was badly injured as an infantry officer during the First World War. He suffered pain and partial immobility for the rest of his life. After the war he joined his family book-publishing business, then entered Parliament at the 1924 general election. Losing his seat in 1929, he regained it in 1931, soon after which he spoke out against the high rate of unemployment in Stockton-on-Tees. He opposed the appeasement of Germany practised by the Conservative government. He rose to high office during the Second World War as a protégé of Prime Minister Winston Churchill. King Edward VII's Hospital
King Edward VII's Hospital (formal name: King Edward VII's Hospital Sister Agnes) is a private hospital located on Beaumont Street in the Marylebone district of central London. Agnes Keyser, later known as Sister Agnes, established the hospital in her home at 17 Grosvenor Crescent in 1899 in the wake of the Second Boer War and at the suggestion of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) who went on to become the hospital's patron. Its first intake of sick and mostly gunshot-wounded British Army officers arrived in February 1900. The hospital continued to operate during peacetime. During the First World War it continued to specialise in treatment of wounded officers by a select group of honorary staff, drawn up by Sister Agnes and made up of eminent London surgeons of the time. Military personnel treated included the future prime minister Harold Macmillan who was injured in 1916. He was admitted again in 1963.
