Joe Clarke (canoeist)
Joseph Clarke, (born 3 November 1992) is a British slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2009, specializing in the K1 (kayak) and KX1 (extreme kayak/kayak cross) events. He is the 2016 Olympic champion in the K1 event, a double World champion in the kayak cross discipline, and has won medals at World and European Championships. Early life Clarke was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. He first tried canoeing during a trip with The Scout Association at the age of eight. He then applied to join the Stafford and Stone Canoe Club, but was rejected for being too young. He was given the chance to reapply through his middle school's canoeing club during year six at Walton Priory Middle School, but as they only had eight places available which were greatly oversubscribed he was required to write a letter to demonstrate why he deserved a place. Joe Clarke (cricketer)
Joe Michael Clarke (born 26 May 1996) is an English cricketer who plays for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. He is a right-handed batsman who also plays as a wicket-keeper. He made his first-class debut for Worcestershire against Hampshire in May 2015. He was educated at Llanfyllin High School. Following Worcestershire’s relegation to Division Two of the County Championship in 2018, he joined Nottinghamshire on a four year deal. In 2017, Clarke was included in an England Lions squad that toured Australia, scoring 45 against a CA XI in Perth. However, in May 2019, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) withdrew Clarke from the Lions' squad, after being named during Alex Hepburn's rape trial. Hepburn was found guilty of rape, and although the judge said that Clarke "did nothing wrong" on the night of the attack, the ECB were concerned about the disrespectful messages about women that had been exchanged. Joe "Joey" Clarke is a former U.S. soccer defender who currently coaches collegiate soccer at Washington University in St. Louis. Clarke spent six seasons in the North American Soccer League and one in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He has coached men's collegiate soccer since 1981. Player Youth and college Clarke grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and began playing soccer as a youth at St. Thomas More Elementary School. He attended McBride High School, but when the school closed between his junior and senior year, he moved to Normandy Senior High School, graduating in 1972. Following his graduation from high school, Clarke entered Saint Louis University where he played on the Saint Louis Billikens men's soccer, Billiken's soccer team from 1972 to 1975. Joe Clarke (Westmeath Hurler)
Joseph Clarke (born 1986) is an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Westmeath senior team. Born in Castletown Geoghegan, County Westmeath, Clarke first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Westmeath minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. Clarke made his senior debut during the 2005 Christy Ring Cup. Since then he has won three Christy Ring Cup medals and one National League (Division 2) medal. Joseph Andrew Clarke (September 20, 1869 – July 27, 1941) was a Canadian politician and lawyer. He served twice as mayor of Edmonton, Alberta, was a candidate for election to the House of Commons of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and was a member of the Yukon Territorial Council (precursor to the Yukon Legislative Assembly). Early life Clarke was born in Osnabruck Center, Ontario. He was educated in Prescott and Brockville, Ontario, and joined the North-West Mounted Police in 1892 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He returned to Ontario shortly thereafter, only to be charged by the RNWMP with desertion. He was fined one hundred dollars, but received no further sanction in part because the magistrate was his uncle. Joe Clarke ( ga, Seosamh Ó Clérigh, 22 December 1882 – 22 April 1976) was an Irish republican politician. Life Born in Rush, Dublin, Clarke worked for the Sinn Féin Bank, and was active in the Easter Rising. On Easter Monday morning, on 24 April 1916, Clarke was one of 13 volunteers who held the Mount Street Bridge for nine hours against the overwhelming forces of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment of the British Army. When captured, he was shot in the head, but survived, and was instead imprisoned in Liverpool Prison, Wakefield Prison and then Frongoch internment camp. On his return to Ireland, Clarke acted as the courier for the First Dáil,Éamonn Mac Thomáis, ''Me jewel and darlin' Dublin'', p.139 but was interned from January 1921. Joseph Clarke (8 April 1758 – 10 September 1834) was an Irish physician. Biography Clarke was the second son of James Clarke, agriculturist, was born in Desertlin parish, co. Londonderry, on 8 April 1758. He studied arts at Glasgow in 1775–6, and medicine at Edinburgh in 1776–9, graduating in September 1779. In the spring of 1781 he attended William Hunter's lectures in London, and received a stimulus to obstetrical studies, which determined him to settle in Dublin as an accoucheur. Becoming pupil in 1781 and assistant physician in 1783 at the Lying-in Hospital, he was elected master (or physician) of that hospital in 1786, having in the same year married a niece of Dr. Cleghorn, founder of the anatomical school in Trinity College, whom he assisted in his lectures from 1784 to 1788. Joseph Clarke (died 1749) was an English cleric and academic, known as a controversialist. He was particularly concerned to oppose followers of Samuel Clarke (no relation). Life The son of Joseph Clarke, D.D., rector of Long Ditton, Surrey, he was educated at Westminster School. He was then a student at Magdalene College, Cambridge, under Thomas Johnson. He was elected a fellow of his college, proceeded to the degree of M.A., and died after a long illness on 30 December 1749.
