Joseph Brevard
Joseph Brevard (July 19, 1766October 11, 1821) was an American Revolutionary War patriot. He was born in Rowan County (in the portion which later became Iredell County) in the Province of North Carolina. He served on the South Carolina Supreme Court (1801-1815) and as U.S. Representative from District 9 of South Carolina (1819-1821).Congressional Biography Revolutionary war service Joseph Brevard served first as an ensign and then lieutenant in the 1st North Carolina Regiment from 1781 to 1782. Stephen Decatur Miller
Stephen Decatur Miller (May 8, 1787March 8, 1838) was an American politician, who served as the 52nd Governor of South Carolina from 1828 to 1830. He represented South Carolina as a U.S. Representative from 1817 to 1819, and as a U.S. Senator from 1831 to 1833. Life and career He was born in Waxhaw settlement, South Carolina and graduated from South Carolina College in 1808. After he studied law, he practiced in Sumterville. Stephen Decatur Miller was married twice. His first wife, Elizabeth Dick, died in 1819. None of their three children lived to adulthood. Miller remarried in 1821; his second wife was a girl sixteen years his junior, Mary Boykin (1804−1885). They had four children together. Despite the age difference, their marriage was happy and passionate. 3rd North Carolina Regiment
The 3rd North Carolina Regiment was raised on 16 January 1776 at Wilmington, North Carolina for service with the Continental Army. In April, Jethro Sumner was appointed colonel. The regiment was present at the Battle of Sullivan's Island, defense of Charleston in June 1776. The 3rd Regiment transferred from the Southern Department to George Washington's main army in February 1777. Assigned to Francis Nash's North Carolina Brigade in July 1777, it soon saw action at the battles of Battle of Brandywine, Brandywine and Battle of Germantown, Germantown, and was present at Battle of White Marsh, White Marsh. Sumner went home ill in early 1778.
