Joseph B. Ebbesen
Joseph Bernard Ebbesen (January 12, 1925 – September 7, 2014) was an American politician and optometrist. Born in DeKalb, Illinois, Ebbesen graduated from the DeKalb Township High School in 1943. He then served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He went to the Northern Illinois University and the Illinois College of Optometry. Ebbesen practiced optometry in DeKalb, Illinois. He served on the local board of education and on the DeKalb City Council from 1961 to 1965. From 1965 to 1969, Ebbesen served as mayor of DeKalb and was a Republican. DeKalb, Illinois
DeKalb ( ) is a city in DeKalb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 43,862 according to the 2010 census, up from 39,018 at the 2000 census. The city is named after decorated Franconian- French war hero Johann de Kalb, who died during the American Revolutionary War. Founded in 1856, DeKalb became important in the development and manufacture of barbed wire, especially for agriculture and raising livestock. While agricultural-related industries remain a facet of the city, along with health and services, the city's largest employer in the 21st century is Northern Illinois University, founded in 1895.
