Joseph Attipetty
Joseph Attipetty (June 25, 1894 - January 21, 1970) was the first native bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Verapoly. Early life and education Joseph Attipetty was born on June 25, 1894, as the second of five children of Matthew and Rosa, at Ochanthuruth in the parish of Cruz Milagris, then in Cochin State, now Ernakulam, Kerala, India. His father was a seminarian, but realizing that his vocation was not priesthood, he dropped from seminary and later married Rosa. Attipetty was fondly called "Kochu Jusei" (കൊച്ചുജ്യൂസെ). He did his primary education at St. Mary's School, Ochanthuruthu and then at St. Albert's High School, Ernakulam. He was sent to St. Joseph's college in Trichy, run by the Jesuit fathers for pursuing his bachelor's degree. Ochanthuruth
Ochanthuruth is one of the villages in Vypin, an island in Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. It is on the southern part of Vypin. Geography It is located at Vypin Island of Ernakulam District. Location Ochanthuruth is 3 miles (5 km) north of Kochi. Getting there The commissioning of the Goshree bridges in 2004 has greatly improved the connectivity to Vypin island from the mainland. Regular ferry and boat services are also available between Vypin and Fort Kochi. Tourism The lighthouse at Puthuvype attracts a number of tourists. The lighthouse is open to tourists on all days from 3 pm to 5 pm. The famous Cherai Beach and Pallipuram Fort are near Ochanthuruth. Cochin State
The Kingdom of Cochin, named after its capital in the city of Kochi (Cochin), was a kingdom in the central part of present-day Kerala state. It commenced at the early part of the 12th century and continued to rule until 1949, when monarchy was abolished by the dominion of India. Historically, the capital of Cochin was in Kodungallur (Cranganore), but in 1341 the capital was moved to Cochin inorder to remedy a disastrous flood. By the early 15th century, Cochin lost its ability to fully defend itself. By the late 15th century, the Cochin kingdom shrank to its minimal extent as a result of invasions by the Zamorin of Calicut. When Portuguese armadas arrived in India, the Kingdom of Cochin had lost its vassals to the Zamorins, including Edapalli and Cranganore, the later of which had even been at the centre of the kingdom historically. Basilio Pompili
Basilio Pompili (16 April 1858 – 5 May 1931) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Vicar General of Rome from 1913 until his death, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1911. Biography Basilio Pompili was born in Spoleto, and studied at the Pontifical Roman Seminary before being ordained to the priesthood on 5 December 1886. He then did pastoral work in Rome from 1888 to 1904. During that time, Pompili was made auditor of the Sacred Congregation of the Council in 1891, an official in the Apostolic Penitentiary in 1896, and prelate adjunct of the Congregation of the Council on 16 March 1898. He was raised to the rank of a protonotary apostolic on 18 December 1899, and was named auditor of the Roman Rota on 18 July 1904. Vallarpadam is one among the group of islands, that form part of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. It is situated in the Vembanad Lake, locally known as The Kochi Lake and has a population of over 10,000. ''Vallarpadam'' is one of the two islands, the other being Willingdon Island, around which the Port of Kochi is situated. The International Container Transshipment Terminal of the port is situated entirely in ''Vallarpadam'' island. Vypin island lies on its west side and Mulavukad island lies to its east.
