Josef Fleischlinger
Josef Fleischlinger (12 December 1911 – 4 April 2013) was a Czechoslovakia, Czechoslovak basketball coach and referee, an ice hockey official, ice hockey referee, and a sports official. Biography At first a basketball player in Brno, Fleischlinger later became a coach and led the BC Brno, Sokol Brno I. team to give title victories in the Czechoslovak Basketball League between 1945 and 1951. He was an assistant coach of the Czechoslovakia national basketball team, Czechoslovak basketball team at the EuroBasket 1946, 1946 European Championship in Geneva, where the team won a gold medal. As a coach, he twice led the national team at the Olympics (1948 in London — 7th place; 1952 in Helsinki — 10th place) and twice earned a silver medal at EuroBasket (EuroBasket 1947, 1947 in Prague, EuroBasket 1955, 1955 in Budapest). EuroBasket
EuroBasket, also commonly referred to as the European Basketball Championship, is the main international basketball competition that is contested quadrennially, by the senior men's national teams that are governed by FIBA Europe, which is the European zone within the International Basketball Federation. The competition was first held in 1935. The former Soviet Union holds the record for most gold medals with a total of 14. The tournament is generally held in August or September, in the offseason of major club competitions. The current defending champion is Spain, who won the 2022 title. FIBA
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA ; French: ) is an association of national organizations which governs the sport of basketball worldwide. Originally known as the (hence FIBA), in 1989 it dropped the word ''amateur'' from its name but retained the acronym. Ice Hockey At The 1948 Winter Olympics
The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, was the sixth Olympic Championship, also served as the 15th World Championships and the 26th European Championships. Canada won its fifth Olympic gold medal and 12th World Championship, represented by the Ottawa RCAF Flyers team of Canadian Armed Forces personnel. The highest-finishing European team Czechoslovakia, won the silver medal and its eighth European Championship. Bibi Torriani played for Switzerland which won the bronze medal, and became the first ice hockey player to recite the Olympic Oath on behalf of all athletes. The hockey tournament was in jeopardy in being played due to disagreements between the Ligue Internationale de Hockey sur Glace and the International Olympic Committee, and a threatened boycott by the United States Olympic Committee when two American hockey teams showed up to play. Czech Basketball Federation
The Czech Basketball Federation ( cs, Česká basketbalová federace), also known as (ČBF) is the governing body of basketball in the Czech Republic. It was founded after the dissolution of the unified state in 1993, with the Slovakia national basketball team continuing as the successor of the Czechoslovak team. They organize national competitions in the Czech Republic for the Czech men's national team and Czech women's national team. The top level professional league is the National Basketball League.
