Jorge Vaca
Jorge Vaca (born 14 December 1959) is a Mexican former professional boxer who held the World Welterweight Championship. Professional career Vaca turned pro in 1978 and captured the WBC and Lineal welterweight title by beating Lloyd Honeyghan via 8th round technical decision in 1987, but lost the belt to Honeyghan via 3rd KO in a rematch in 1988. Later that year he took on IBF Welterweight Title holder Simon Brown, but lost the bout via 3rd TKO. Although he never got a shot again at another major title, Vaca was destroyed by a relatively young Roy Jones Jr. in one round, in the Light-Middleweight weight-class in 1992. He continued to fight until 2002, mostly in his native Mexico, and retired after a loss to Marco Antonio Rubio. Vaca finished with a record of 66 wins, 24 losses, 2 draws, with 51 knockouts. Welterweight
Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. In most sports that use it, welterweight is heavier than lightweight but lighter than middleweight. Etymology The first known instance of the term is from 1831, meaning "heavyweight horseman," later "boxer or wrestler of a certain weight" by 1896. David Reid (boxer)
David Terrell Reid (born September 17, 1973) is a former boxer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Amateur career Reid had a stellar amateur boxing career, culminating with a come-from-behind, one-punch knock out win to secure a gold medal at the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. This followed Reid's title victory a year earlier at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata. Because he was, like Oscar De La Hoya four years before, the only Olympic gold medalist in boxing for the United States, comparisons by writers and critics to de la Hoya were practically inevitable. De la Hoya's nickname is "The Golden Boy"; Reid was dubbed as "The American Dream". Quincy Taylor
Quincy Lee Taylor (born July 18, 1963) is an American former professional boxer who competed between 1986 and 2001. He held the World Boxing Council, WBC middleweight title from 1995 to 1996. Professional career Taylor, a Left-handed, southpaw, turned pro in 1986. In 1987, he nearly KO´d Sugar Ray Leonard whilst sparring in preparation for Marvin Hagler vs. Sugar Ray Leonard, Leonard's match against Marvin Hagler. In 1994, he landed a shot at World Boxing Council, WBC middleweight champion Julian Jackson (boxer), Julian Jackson. Taylor scored an upset TKO victory over Jackson, but lost the title in his next fight to Keith Holmes (boxer), Keith Holmes. After a two-year layoff and a victory in 1998, followed by a three-year layoff and a victory in 2001, Taylor retired from boxing. Mark Breland
Mark Anthony Breland (born May 11, 1963) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1984 to 1997, and held the WBA welterweight title twice between 1987 and 1990. He later became an actor with a wide range of movie and television credits, having made his debut in ''The Lords of Discipline,'' and also appeared in the music video for The Pointer Sisters' 1985 hit single, " Dare Me." Amateur career Breland, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, began fighting when he was 9 years old, taking on challengers in the lobby and hallways of the housing project which happened to be his home. At 13, he entered the gym and embraced boxing as a way of life. He won five New York Golden Gloves titles, surpassing Sugar Ray Robinson for the most wins in the history of the Golden Gloves. Parramatta Stadium was a sports stadium in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia, 23 kilometres west of Sydney's central business district. Troy Weston Waters (23 April 1965 – 18 May 2018) was an Australian light middleweight boxer and member of the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame. Waters fought for the world title three times during his career, losing to Gianfranco Rosi, Terry Norris and Simon Brown. He was the son of Cec Waters and the younger brother of boxers Dean and Guy.
