Jordanus Roodenburgh
Jordanus (Daan) Roodenburgh (23 July, 1886 – 4 February, 1972) was a Dutch urban-architect and former General director of AFC Ajax. Career Born 23 July 1886 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Daan started his career working for K.P.C. de Bazel and H.A.J. en J. Baanders, before becoming an independent architect in 1916. Apart from his work as an architect, he was also active in several committees, such as the Architectura et Amicitia (''Architecture and Friendship'') and the Maatschappij tot Bevordering der Bouwkunst (''Society for the Promotion of Architecture''). In 1936 at age 50 he competed in the Art competitions at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin in the Mixed Architecture event for Sports venues with his construction of Het Houten Stadion, the first proper stadium for his local football club AFC Ajax. Het Houten Stadion
Het Houten Stadion (English: ''The Wooden Stadium'') is a former stadium of AFC Ajax which served as the team's home stadium from 1907 to 1934. History Het Houten Stadion is a former stadium of AFC Ajax. Before Ajax moved to this stadium, they had played on a field in Amsterdam-Noord. Houses had been built on their field in 1907 which sent Ajax searching for a new place to play. The club found two locations in the municipality of Watergraafsmeer losing their previous pitch to housing development. Both new places were located on the Polder, but were closer than the former field in Noord. In the early years of the grounds there was no actual stadium, there were no stands, no water and the players would change and get ready in a bar nearby. De Meer Stadion
De Meer Stadion () is the former stadium of Dutch record football champions Ajax. It was opened in 1934 as a result of the club's former stadium being too small. Upon completion, it could hold 22,000 spectators, but accommodating up to 29,500 at its maximum. Over time, as Ajax's popularity and success grew, the De Meer proved to be too small. From 1928 onward, Ajax played their big European games at the Olympic Stadium. The larger venue also hosted Ajax's midweek night games, since the De Meer was not suited for floodlights. The De Meer was abandoned with the opening of the purpose built Amsterdam Arena in 1996, which is now called the Johan Cruyff Arena. The Netherlands national football team played five international matches at the stadium, winning all of them. Watergraafsmeer
The Watergraafsmeer is a polder in the Netherlands. It was reclaimed in 1629. In the 17th and 18th centuries, there were many buitenplaatsen in the Watergraafsmeer, though nowadays only one, Frankendael, remains. Since 1921, the Watergraafsmeer is part of the city of Amsterdam and its rural character has all but disappeared. It is located in the borough of Amsterdam-Oost. The most important streets in the Watergraafsmeer are the Middenweg and the Kruislaan.
