Jordan Evans (politician)
Jordan Evans is an American politician who was the only openly transgender Republican Party elected official in the United States. Evans said she first tried coming out as trans in 2013. "I ended up going back into the closet," she told ''Cosmopolitan''. Eventually, she began transitioning to female in 2015–2016. As of 2016, she was Republican Town Committee secretary in Charlton, Massachusetts and elected trustee of the local library. She was elected Town Constable of Charlton in November 2017. She was elected again to the Dudley-Charlton Regional School Committee in 2020. She was included in an unsuccessful recall of her regional school committee by local community members concerned about sex education curriculum, critical race theory, and mask mandates in the district. Transgender
A transgender (often abbreviated as trans) person is someone whose gender identity or gender expression does not correspond with their sex assigned at birth. Many transgender people experience dysphoria, which they seek to alleviate through transitioning, often adopting a different name and set of pronouns in the process. Additionally, they may undergo sex reassignment therapies such as hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery to more closely align their primary and secondary sex characteristics with their gender identity. Not all transgender people desire these treatments, however, and others may be unable to access them for financial or medical reasons. Those who do desire to medically transition to another sex may identify as transsexual. ''Transgender'' is an umbrella term. The Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) is an organization within the Republican Party which advocates for equal rights for LGBT+ Americans. History Log Cabin Republicans was founded in 1977 in California as a rallying point for Republicans opposed to the Briggs Initiative, which attempted to ban homosexuals from teaching in public schools.
