Joram Lürsen
Joram Lürsen (born 11 August 1963) is a Dutch film and television director, as well as screenwriter and producer. Lürsen was born in Amstelveen. He graduated from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam in 1990 with his film ''De Finales'' (English translation: ''The Finals''). He directed the family film ''In Orange'' (2004), which received a Golden Film for 100,000 visitors and international awards at film festivals in Hamburg, Esfahan, Kristiansand, Los Angeles, Poznań, and Rimouski. He directed the romantic comedy film ''Alles is Liefde'' (2007), which received a Diamond Film for 1,000,000 visitors. ''Alles is Liefde'' ( en, Love Is All) is a 2007 Dutch romantic comedy film directed by Joram Lürsen, and starring Carice van Houten, Paul de Leeuw, Wendy van Dijk, and Daan Schuurmans. Plot The actor who annually plays Sinterklaas dies just before the arrival of the television crew. A mysterious new Sinterklaas named Jan (Michiel Romeyn) replaces him. Shortly after his public appearance, he rescues a child who fell into a canal, but runs away when people realize what happened and begin crowding around. He is found by the production assistant of the television show next day, and agrees to appear in television shows, when he is informed that playing Sinterklaas is a paying job. He becomes quite popular on television because of his alternative style. It is based on the life of banker Walraven van Hall who financed the Dutch resistance during the war. It became the most-watched Dutch film of 2018 and was nominated for eleven Golden Calves, the first time that a film received so many nominations for the award. ''Public Works'' ( nl, Publieke werken), also distributed under the title ''A Noble Intention'' is a 2015 Dutch drama film directed by Joram Lürsen. It was based on the book of the same name by Thomas Rosenboom about the troubled construction of the Victoria Hotel in Amsterdam. It was listed as one of eleven films that could be selected as the Dutch submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. The film won the Pearl Award at the Film by the Sea festival in the Netherlands in 2016. Plot The narrative is based on two historic facts: one, the Victoria hotel in Amsterdam, opposite the Central Station, has two nineteenth-century houses incrusted in its facade.
