Jonathan Jacobson
Jonathan G. Jacobson (born June 20, 1953) is an American politician and attorney who has served in the New York State Assembly since 2018. A Democrat, Jacobson represents the 104th district, covering Newburgh and Poughkeepsie. Career After graduating from Duke University with a B.A. degree and then New York Law School in June 1977 with a J.D. degree, Jacobson held a number of positions in New York state government, including Assistant Counsel to the Speaker of the Assembly, Assistant Attorney General, and Workers' Compensation Law Judge. He also operates his own law firm. Jacobson chaired the City of Newburgh Charter Review Commission in the early 1990s, and is a former Newburgh city council member. Jacobson ran for mayor of Newburgh in 2015 against incumbent Democrat Judy Kennedy. Frank Skartados
Frank Skartados (January 3, 1956 – April 15, 2018; el, Φρανκ Σκαρτάδος}) was a Greek-American politician and businessman. Skartados was a member of the Democratic Party. A resident of the Ulster County hamlet of Milton, where he ran a farm, he was the Assemblyman for the 104th district of the New York State Assembly in the mid-Hudson, which includes both the city and town of Newburgh, the cities of Beacon, and Poughkeepsie, the hamlet of Marlboro, and the town of Lloyd. He defeated 14-year Republican incumbent Thomas J. Kirwan in 2008 for what was then the 100th district, but narrowly lost to him two years later in a contest not formally decided for four months. Kirwan died less than a year into his term, and Skartados won the 2012 special election to fill the seat, the first election held for what was now the redrawn 104th district, which excluded some areas of Ulster County that were heavily Republican. Judy Kennedy
Judith Kennedy (October 25, 1944 – April 15, 2018) was an American politician and businesswoman. She was an independent politician, but was a member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party until 2015. In 2011, Kennedy was elected Mayor of Newburgh, New York, serving in the office until her death in 2018. In the 1990s, Kennedy worked for Hewlett-Packard in Fort Collins, Colorado, before ultimately moving to Newburgh. During her tenure as mayor, Kennedy focused on Newburgh's reputation as one of the most dangerous places to live in the United States, through focus on reducing crime, bringing in business and revitalizing neighborhoods. The Republican Party, also referred to as the GOP ("Grand Old Party"), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States. The GOP was founded in 1854 by anti-slavery activists who opposed the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which allowed for the potential expansion of chattel slavery into the western territories. The Independence Party is a political party in the U.S. state of New York. The party was founded in 1991 by Dr. Gordon Black, Tom Golisano, and Laureen Oliver from Rochester, New York, and acquired ballot status in 1994. They lost their ballot status in 2020 under a change in the New York state election law that required at least 130,000 votes on the party line every two years. Although often associated with Ross Perot, as the party came to prominence in the wake of Perot's 1992 presidential campaign, it was created prior to Perot's run.
