Jonathan Herrera (baseball)
Jonathan Alejandro Herrera Rodriguez (born November 13, 1984) is a Venezuelan former professional baseball infielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs. Career Colorado Rockies Herrera was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Colorado Rockies on April 6, 2002. On April 29, 2008, Herrera was called up to the major leagues to play second base for the Colorado Rockies in response to an injury sustained by their star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki as well as other lineup difficulties plaguing the team in the early 2008 baseball season. On May 4, he got his first RBI in a start against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field. On December 12, 2008, Herrera was non-tendered, but re-signed to a minor league deal the next day. An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Standard arrangement of positions In a game of baseball, two teams of nine players take turns playing offensive and defensive roles. Although there are many rules to baseball, in general the team playing offense tries to score runs by batting balls into the field that enable runners to make a complete circuit of the four bases. The Mexican League (, ) is a professional baseball league based in Mexico and the oldest running professional league in the country. The league has 18 teams organized in two divisions, North and South. Teams play 114 games each season. Five teams in each division advance to a four-round postseason tournament that culminates in the Serie del Rey, a best-of-seven championship series between the two division champions. The Mexican League has two affiliated minor leagues, the Liga Norte de México and Mexican Academy League. The Olmecas de Tabasco (English: Tabasco Olmecs) are a professional baseball team in the Mexican League based in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico.
