Jonathan Goodson
Jonathan Michael Goodson (born August 20, 1945) is an American television producer who specializes in game shows. He is the son of legendary game show producer Mark Goodson and began his television career in 1973 as chief counsel of Goodson-Todman Productions. He later produced several of the company's shows. After his father's death in December 1992, Jonathan took over the company in March 1993 (in the early 1980s the Goodsons had acquired the Todman heirs' portion of the company) and ran it until it was sold to All American Television in 1995. The company was then acquired in turn by Pearson Television in 1998, and then current owner Fremantle (formerly FremantleMedia) in 2002. Goodson also runs his own production company, Jonathan Goodson Productions, whose output has consisted mostly of state-based lottery game shows, including ''Illinois Instant Riches'', one of only two state-based lottery game show to be shown to a nationwide audience, thanks to Superstation WGN. That's My Line
''That's My Line'' is a summer CBS reality show developed by Mark Goodson. Conceived in response to the success of NBC's ''Real People'' and ABC's ''That's Incredible!'', ''That's My Line'' borrowed its name from one of Goodson and Bill Todman's earlier productions, the panel game ''What's My Line?'', and shared its central conceit of highlighting average people with unusual occupations. Unlike the earlier show, ''That's My Line'' had no panel or game components, instead being centered around interviews and demonstrations. The series ran as a summer replacement series for two abbreviated seasons in 1980 and 1981. It was hosted by Bob Barker and announced by Johnny Olson, both associated with Goodson-Todman's hit game show, ''The Price Is Right'' (Olson had also been the ''What's My Line?'' announcer for many years). For 24 hours before taping, the contestants were sequestered, sleep deprived at a storefront (located at the then named Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, which is now called the Dolby Theatre). Contestants were then escorted to Sony Pictures Studios, in Culver City, California, where the actual gameplay would commence; with the intent of the contestants staying awake, and "cramming" various material such as trivia questions and jokes, which they would then answer on the show while attempting physical stunts in an attempt to stay awake. The Mark Goodson-produced series debuted on CBS on September 20, 1982 and ended on September 16, 1983. Mark Leo Goodson (January 14, 1915 – December 18, 1992) was an American television producer who specialized in game shows, most frequently with his business partner Bill Todman, with whom he created Goodson-Todman Productions. Early life and early career Goodson was born in Sacramento, California, on January 14, 1915. *a "Born Jan. 14, 1915 in Sacramento, CA." — ¶ 1. His parents, Abraham Ellis (1875–1954) and Fannie Goodson (1887–1986), emigrated from Russia in the early 1900s. As a child, Goodson acted in amateur theater with the Plaza Stock Company.
