Jonathan's Law
Jonathan's Law is a New York state law signed in May 2007 by Governor Eliot Spitzer, established procedures for the notification of parents and guardians of incidents affecting the health and well-being of children and certain adults residing in state-run facilities. Jonathan's Law was sponsored by Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg ( D–Long Beach) and State Sen. Thomas P. Morahan ( R– New City). The law is named for Jonathan Carey, a child with autism and who was killed in 2007 by a direct care worker employed at the state-run facility where he lived. Background The State of New York's Office for People With Developmental Disabilities prevented the family of Jonathan Carey from accessing records relating to their son, who had been diagnosed with autism. Eliot Spitzer
Eliot Laurence Spitzer (born June 10, 1959) is an American politician and attorney. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, he was the 54th governor of New York from 2007 until his resignation in 2008. Spitzer was born in New York City, attended Princeton University, and earned his law degree from Harvard University, Harvard. Nonverbal autism is a subset of autism where the person does not learn how to Speech, speak. It is estimated that 25% to 50% of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) never develop spoken language beyond a few words or utterances. Niskayuna is a town in Schenectady County, New York, United States. The population was 23,278 at the 2020 census. Sir William Allmond Codrington Goode was a British colonial administrator who served as Governor of Singapore from 1957 to 1959, and Governor of North Borneo from 1960 to 1963. Early life Goode was born in Twickenham, Middlesex, and attended Oakham School and Worcester College, Oxford. Career Goode joined the Malayan Civil Service in 1931, studying law in his spare time.
