Jonabell Farm
Jonabell Farm is an 800-acre Thoroughbred breeding farm located in Lexington, Kentucky. It was founded in 1954 by John A. Bell and his wife Jessica and sold in 2001 to Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his Darley Stud American division. History John and Jessica Bell founded Jonabell Farm in 1946 at Hamburg Place, then relocated to Bowman Mill Road in Lexington in 1954. The farm stands on what was part of the nearly 8,000 acres granted to Abraham Bowman, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. Keeneland racetrack was later built on the site of Bowman's plantation. The land that eventually became Jonabell Farm contains Bowman Cabin, built in 1799. The original stone water tower also still stands. Under the Bells, the farm produced over 200 stakes winners, 14 of those champions, including Damascus, Epitome, and the first American-bred to win The Derby, Never Say Die. Horse breeding is reproduction in horses, and particularly the human-directed process of selective breeding of animals, particularly purebred horses of a given breed. Holy Bull
Holy Bull (January 24, 1991 – June 7, 2017) was a champion Thoroughbred racehorse. Although he finished a disappointing twelfth in the 1994 Kentucky Derby, his major wins that year in the Florida Derby, Blue Grass Stakes, Metropolitan Handicap, Haskell Invitational, Travers Stakes and Woodward Stakes earned him American Horse of the Year honors. He suffered a career-ending injury in the Donn Handicap soon after the beginning of his four-year-old campaign in 1995. Subsequently, retired to stud, he was the sire of Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo and champion two-year-old Macho Uno. El Prado (February 3, 1989 – September 21, 2009) was a Thoroughbred racehorse and Champion sire. He was sired by Sadler's Wells, who was a fourteen-time Leading sire in Great Britain & Ireland. Out of the mare, Lady Capulet who won the Irish 1,000 Guineas on her racecourse debut, his damsire was Sir Ivor whose wins included the 1968 Epsom Derby, 2,000 Guineas Stakes, Champion Stakes and Washington, D.C. Frosted (foaled April 18, 2012 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2016, he set a stakes record while winning the Metropolitan Handicap in a "dazzling performance" and followed up with a win in the Whitney Handicap. The Metropolitan Handicap, frequently called the "Met Mile", is an American Grade I Thoroughbred horse race held at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Open to horses age three and older, it is contested on dirt over a distance of one mile (8 furlongs). Starting in 2014, it is now run on the same day as the Belmont Stakes in early June. Bernardini (March 23, 2003 – July 30, 2021) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2006 Preakness Stakes and Travers Stakes. Background A son of A.P. Indy, he is out of Cara Rafaela, who won almost a million dollars during her racing career.
