Jolomo Award
The Jolomo Bank of Scotland Award, founded in 2007 by the Scottish landscape artist John Lowrie Morrison, is the largest arts award in Scotland and the UK's largest privately funded arts award, with a biennial prize currently (2011) of £25,000 for the winner. "The Awards seek to recognise young and emerging artists who are moving Scottish landscape painting forward, and support them in their development." 2007 Award First Prize: Anna King – Paintings in oil and pencil on paper and board. John Lowrie Morrison
John Lowrie Morrison (born 1948, Maryhill, Glasgow), known as Jolomo, is a Scottish contemporary artist, producing expressionist oil paintings of Scottish landscapes. Career He became interested in art at an early age, copying chocolate box pictures that his mother brought home from work, and painting on school art trips and family holidays. He attended Glasgow School of Art, from 1967 to 1971. He was forced to make a choice between making abstract designs for fashion and landscape painting and chose the latter. While his classmates favoured pop art and abstraction, he developed an expressionist style, influenced by artists such as Kokoschka, Chagall and Soutine. He taught art for more than twenty years at Lochgilphead High School, appointed along the way as art adviser for Strathclyde, and only became a full-time artist in 1996. Anna King (artist)
Anna King, is a Scottish landscape artist "who seeks out forgotten spaces and derelict buildings." She was born in Shetland, spent most of her life in the Scottish Borders, and lives in the village of Greenlaw, near Kelso. She first came to attention of the general public at her degree show at Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2005. Awards In 2017, she won the top prize of £20,000 in the annual Jolomo Award, established by John Lowrie Morrison and awarded to Scottish Landscape Artists. Keith Salmon
Keith Charles Salmon (born 1959) is a British fine artist. His work is principally semi-abstract Scottish landscapes which are created based upon his experience as a hill walker. Even though he is registered blind Salmon has climbed more than one hundred of Scotland's Munros, many of which have been captured in his artworks. Education and experience Keith Salmon was born in Essex and moved to Wales in the late 1960s. He studied for his BA in art at what is now Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology and Falmouth School of Art between 1979 and 1983. He originally trained and worked as a sculptor, constructing pieces from steel, wood and cement fondu. On completion of his studies he moved to Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the north east of England where he set up his first studio. In 1989, Salmon moved back to Wales and set up a new studio.
