Jolly Holiday
"Jolly Holiday" is a song from Walt Disney's 1964 film ''Mary Poppins''. It was composed by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The song is sung in the film by Bert (Dick Van Dyke) and Mary (Julie Andrews) in the pastel fantasy sequence before reaching the carousel. Oscar-winning music arranger Irwin Kostal provided the much lauded orchestration. The singing animal voices were provided by Bill Lee (as Ram), Ginny Tyler (as Lambs), Paul Frees (as Barnyard Horse), Marc Breaux (as Cow), Marni Nixon (as Geese), Thurl Ravenscroft (as Hog / Pig) and Peter Ellenshaw (as Penguin Waiter), with Daws Butler, Dal McKennon and Richard M. Sherman voicing the other Penguins. This song also appears in the 2004 musical, but it was changed to fit the story of Neleus from ''Mary Poppins Opens the Door''. Walter Elias Disney (; December 5, 1901December 15, 1966) was an American animator, film producer and entrepreneur. A pioneer of the American animation industry, he introduced several developments in the production of cartoons. William Samuel Cook "Peter" Ellenshaw (24 May 1913 – 12 February 2007) was an English matte designer and special effects creator who worked on many Disney features. Born in London, he moved to America in 1953. Career & Life He first worked in matte painting for producer Alexander Korda on such films as '' Things to Come'' (1936), and later on such Powell and Pressburger productions as ''Black Narcissus'' (1947) assisting his mentor W. (Walter) Percy Day. A few years later, while still based in Europe, he began to work for Hollywood studios. He worked for MGM on ''Quo Vadis'' (1951), but his most extensive association was with Walt Disney Studios beginning with their first completely live action feature film, ''Treasure Island'' (1950). ''Disney Sing-Along Songs'' is a series of videos on VHS, betamax, laserdisc, and DVD with musical moments from various Disney films, TV shows, and attractions. Lyrics for the songs are sometimes displayed on-screen with the Mickey Mouse icon as a "bouncing ball". Early releases open with a theme song introduction (written by Patrick DeRemer) containing footage featuring Professor Owl and his class, seen originally in 1953 in two Disney shorts, ''Melody'' and ''Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom'' (voiced then by Bill Thompson). Professor Owl (now voiced by Corey Burton) hosts some of the videos, while either Jiminy Cricket or Ludwig Von Drake host others. All the parody lyrics were written (as always) by Gerard Alessandrini. This version was co-directed by Alessandrini and his long-time collaborator Phillip George. George had up till then only been credited with "Musical Staging" and as "Assistant Director". George also contributed many of the more successful ideas and dialogue sketches to the more recent ''Forbidden Broadway'' editions. The show played in the basement of Ellen's Stardust Diner, and the album is the fifth volume in the series. Dallas Raymond McKennon (July 19, 1919 – July 14, 2009), sometimes credited as Dal McKennon, was an American film, television and voice actor, who had a career lasting over 50 years. During World War II he served in the Army Signal Corps and was stationed in Alaska.
