Albert Jolis
Albert Jolis (1912–2000) was an American diamond dealer, head of the international firm Diamond Distributors, Inc, and a fund-raising anti-communist, serving in the 1980s as board chairman of Resistance International. World War II and its aftermath Jolis served in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) with William Casey under Bill Donovan during World War II. In a letter to Arthur Koestler on 19 March 1946 George Orwell wrote that "Bert Jolis is very much of our way of thinking”. They were planning to set up an anti-totalitarian League and Orwell had been talking to an American acquaintance about the sister organisation in the USA, the International Rescue Committee. Chantal Jolis (29 April 1947, in Grenoble, France – 27 February 2012, in Îles-de-la-Madeleine) was a radio host in Québec, Canada. She was best known for her daily broadcasts ''Bouchée double'', ''L'Oreille musclée'' and ''Bachibouzouk'' presented on Première chaîne of Radio Canada, and for her dynamic, laid-back and accessible style. Biography Chantal Jolis was born in Grenoble, France. Her mother was of Italian origin and her father had Spanish lineage. She became a host on France Inter Paris public radio but felt she was only "tolerated" by her superiors. While taking part in a French-language public-radio exchange program in 1980, Jolis visited Québec for two weeks at the age of 33. She felt very welcome in Montréal, where her open-minded and lively tone was appreciated. Radio-Canada offered her a contract and she made Canada her new home. Isabel Jolís Oliver
Isabel Jolís Oliver (1682–1770), was a Catalan printer (publishing), printer and engraver. She was born to Joan Jolís Santjaume (died 1705), printer in Barcelona, and Maria Oliver. She never married, and after the death of her childless brother Juan in 1759, she took over the family printing press company at the age of 77. She used the imprint ”Hereus de Joan Jolís” (Heirs of Joan Jolís). The company had three printing presses and was a significant company. She printed the second edition of the Miguel de Cervantes novel ''Don Quijote'', in 1762, and printed for the seminary and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Barcelona, Episcopal Palace of Barcelona. She was also active as an engraver, trained by her father, and many works of her production as an engraver survives. She left the company to her student, Bernat Pla.
