Johnsonville is a hamlet located in the towns of Pittstown and Schaghticoke in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. It was named for its settler, William Johnson. History Johnsonville was home to Johnsonville Axe Manufacturing company and a bobbin factory (Johnsonville Bobbin Works) in the late 19th century. Rensselaer County, New York
Rensselaer County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 161,130. Its county seat is Troy. The county is named in honor of the family of Kiliaen van Rensselaer, the original Dutch owner of the land in the area. Rensselaer County is part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The area that is now Rensselaer County was inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking Mohican Indian tribe at the time of European encounter. Kiliaen van Rensselaer, a Dutch jeweler and merchant, purchased the area in 1630 and incorporated it in his patroonship Rensselaerswyck. (It was part of the Dutch colony New Netherland). Pittstown is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 5,735 at the 2010 census. It is in the northern part of the county. A small part of the northern town line is Rensselaer County's border with Washington County. Moving west, the Hoosic River defines the town's northwestern line to the crux of its border with the town of Schaghticoke, which juts south to form the western town line. The towns of Brunswick and Grafton border to the southwest and southeast, respectively, with the town of Hoosick to the east. Schaghticoke, New York
Schaghticoke is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 7,679 at the 2010 census. It was named for the Schaghticoke, a Native American tribe formed in the seventeenth century from an amalgamation of remnant peoples of eastern New York and New England. The tribe has one of the oldest reservations in the United States, located in what is now Litchfield County, Connecticut. It has been recognized by the state of Connecticut but has not yet achieved federal recognition. The town is on the northern border of the county, north of Troy. The town contains a village, also called Schaghticoke, and part of the village of Valley Falls. Cannon–Brownell–Herrington Farmstead is a historic home and farm located near Johnsonville, Rensselaer County, New York. The original section of the farmhouse was built about 1830, with the central block and wing added about 1870. The house consists of a two-story, central block with flanking 1 1/2-story wings.
