Johnson County is a County (United States), county located in the U.S. state of Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 9,189. The county seat is Wrightsville, Georgia, Wrightsville. Johnson County is part of the Dublin, Georgia, Dublin, Georgia, Dublin micropolitan area, Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Johnson county was created by the Georgia legislature December 11, 1858, from parts of Emanuel County, Georgia, Emanuel, Laurens County, Georgia, Laurens, and Washington County, Georgia, Washington counties. Johnson County was named for Georgia governor, senator, and U.S. vice-presidential candidate Herschel Vespasian Johnson. In 1919, a deputy driving Jim Waters, a black prisoner accused of rape, out of the county was stopped by a group of 150 men at a bridge over the Ohoopee River. Herschel Vespasian Johnson
Herschel Vespasian Johnson (September 18, 1812August 16, 1880) was an American politician. He was the 41st Governor of Georgia from 1853 to 1857 and the vice presidential nominee of the Douglas wing of the Democratic Party in the 1860 U.S. presidential election. He also served as one of Georgia's Confederate States senators. Early life Johnson was born near Farmer's Bridge in Burke County, Georgia. In 1834, he graduated from the University of Georgia. He studied at the private law school of Judge William T. Gould in Augusta, Georgia and was admitted to the bar. He moved to Jefferson County in 1839 and began to practice law in Louisville, Georgia. In 1844, Johnson moved to the state capitol, Milledgeville, where he continued to practice law. U.S. Route 221 (US 221) is a spur of U.S. Route 21. It travels from Perry, Florida, at US 19/ US 98/ US 27 Alternate to Lynchburg, Virginia, at US 29 Business (Lynchburg Expressway). It travels through the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. It travels through the cities of Valdosta, Georgia; Spartanburg, South Carolina; Marion, North Carolina; Roanoke, Virginia; and Lynchburg, Virginia. Georgia State Route 86
State Route 86 (SR 86) is a state highway that travels mostly through rural areas of the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway travels from a point southeast of East Dublin southeast to a point about halfway between Lyons and Reidsville, via Oak Park. Route description SR 86 begins at an intersection with SR 29 southeast of East Dublin. The highway heads easterly to an intersection with SR 15/ SR 78 south of Adrian.
