Johnny Wilson (American Football)
John S. "Long John" Wilson (November 2, 1915 – August 24, 2002) was an American football player. Wilson, born in Dover, Ohio, played high school football for the Steubenville Big Red where we earned All-Ohio status. He then played his college football for the Western Reserve Red Cats, present-day Case Western Reserve University, from 1935 – 1938 where he greatly contributed to a number of undefeated teams under Coach Bill Edwards. His combined collegiate record was 36-2-1. End (American Football)
An end in American and Canadian football is a player who lines up at either end of the line of scrimmage, usually beside the tackles. Rules state that a legal offensive formation must always consist of seven players on the line of scrimmage and that the player on the end of the line constitutes an eligible receiver. Before the advent of two platoons, in which teams fielded distinct defensive and offensive units, players that lined up on the ends of the line on both offense and defense were referred to simply as "ends". The position was used in this sense until roughly the 1960s. Bill Edwards (American Football Coach)
William Miller Edwards (June 21, 1905 – June 12, 1987) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Western Reserve University, Vanderbilt University and Wittenberg University in a career lasting more than 30 years, compiling a win-loss-tie record of 168–45–8. Edwards also coached the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) from 1941 to 1942, tallying a 4–9–1 record, and served as an assistant coach for the NFL's Cleveland Browns in the late 1940s. Raised near Massillon, Ohio, Edwards was the son of an immigrant from Wales who worked in the area's coal mines.
