John Ray (March 25, 1937 – January 27, 2020) was an American stock car racing driver. The father of Kevin Ray, he was a competitor in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Career Ray began his career at the top level of NASCAR competition, the Winston Cup Series (now the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series) in 1974, making his debut at Alabama International Motor Speedway (now Talladega Superspeedway); he finished 41st of 50 cars in the event. He went on to race seven more times in the series between 1974 and 1976; his best finish came at Talladega later in 1974, when he finished 22nd. John Ray (September 8, 1911 – June 28, 1957) was an American Negro league outfielder in the 1930s and 1940s. A native of Williamson County, Tennessee, Ray made his Negro leagues debut in 1932 for the Montgomery Grey Sox. Johnny Cornelius Ray (born March 1, 1957) is an American former second baseman and outfielder in Major League Baseball who had a 10-year career from 1981 to 1990. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League and the California Angels of the American League. He also played two seasons for the Yakult Swallows in Japan in 1991 and 1992. Biography Ray played college baseball for the University of Arkansas, finishing up in the 1979 College World Series for the runner-up Razorbacks. Ray was selected by the Houston Astros in the 12th round of the amateur baseball draft. He was traded to the Pirates on August 31, 1981, along with Randy Niemann for Phil Garner. Ray Sepúlveda
Ray Sepúlveda is a salsa singer born in Brooklyn, New York. He recorded three albums with Orquestra Sociedad 76 in the late 1970s and two albums with Johnny & Ray in the late 1980s before launching a solo career in the 1990s. Sepúlveda grew up in Brooklyn and the Bronx, where his father, Ramon Sepúlveda, sang boleros with his group Trio Los Romanticos. When he was a teenager, his family moved to Puerto Rico, where Sepúlveda sang with local groups in Mayaguez, including Orquestra La Justicia & Orquestra La Dictadora with Frankie Ruiz. In 1977 he returned to New York and recorded with Orquestra Sociedad 76 with Johnny Zamot and was part of that band for four years and recorded three albums. In early 1983 he worked with Adalberto Santiago. He left music from 1984 until the middle of 1988, when he and Zamot formed the group Johnny & Ray. John Anthony Pompeo, better known as Johnny Rae (August 11, 1934 – September 4, 1993), was an American jazz drummer and vibraphone, vibraphonist. Born in Saugus, Massachusetts, Rae graduated from East Boston High School in 1952 and studied music at the New England Conservatory and at the Berklee College of Music in the early 1950s. His mother was a night club pianist in the Boston area. His first major professional gig was with Herb Pomeroy in 1953-54; following this he played with George Shearing (1955–56), Johnny Smith (1956), Ralph Sharon (1957), Cozy Cole (1957–58), Herbie Mann (1959–60), Cal Tjader (1961–66, 1968–70), Stan Getz (1962), Gábor Szabó, Charlie Byrd, Earl Hines, Art Van Damme, and Barney Kessel.
