Johnny Cash! The Man, His World, His Music
''Johnny Cash! The Man, His World, His Music'' is a 1969 American musical documentary film. The film examines Cash as he visits various locations in 1968, including his hometown of Dyess, Arkansas (in one scene, he plays the song "Busted" on acoustic guitar inside his abandoned childhood home). The film contains no narration, but rather contains audio and video footage of Cash playing in concert and talking with people on tour with him. By this point, Cash was married to June Carter and had been more sober than he had been in years, despite the fact that he still struggled with addiction. The film was released to capitalize on Cash's success by way of his At Folsom Prison album and to promote his upcoming television variety show on ABC. The film was directed by Rob Elfstrom, with whom Cash would collaborate on his 1973 religious film The Gospel Road, which is shot in a similar style, using non-actors and is also filmed on location. Bob Wootton
Robert "Bob" Wootton (March 4, 1942 – April 9, 2017) was an American guitarist. He joined Johnny Cash's backing band, the Tennessee Three, after original lead guitarist Luther Perkins died in a house fire. He remained Cash's guitarist for nearly thirty years. Biography Robert Cilfton Wootton was born March 4, 1942 in Paris, Arkansas. In 1950, he moved with his family to Taft, California. He first learned to play guitar from his father around age 11. It was around this time that he said he first heard the music of Johnny Cash, which he "instantly loved". In 1956, he bought a copy of "I Walk the Line", even though he did not then own a record player. In 1958, Wootton moved to Oklahoma, where he lived until joining Cash's band. Bob Johnston
Donald William 'Bob' Johnston (May 14, 1932 – August 14, 2015) was an American record producer, best known for his work with Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, and Simon & Garfunkel. Early days Johnston was born into a professional musical family. His grandmother Mamie Jo Adams was a songwriter, as was his mother Diane Johnston. Diane had written songs for Gene Autry in the '50s and scored a hit in 1976 when Asleep at the Wheel covered her 1950 demo "Miles and Miles of Texas". After a stint in the Navy, Bob returned to Fort Worth, then he and Diane Johnston collaborated on songwriting for rockabilly artist Mac Curtis, and others. Marshall Garnett Grant (May 5, 1928 – August 7, 2011) was the upright bassist and electric bassist of singer Johnny Cash's original backing duo, the Tennessee Two, in which Grant and electric guitarist Luther Perkins played. The group became known as The Tennessee Three in 1960, with the addition of drummer W. S. Holland. Grant also served as road manager for Cash and his touring show company.
