John "Johnny" Campbell (7 March 1910 – 6 July 1999) was a Scottish professional association football, footballer who scored 116 goals from 205 games in the Football League playing as a forward (association football), forward for Leicester City F.C., Leicester City and Lincoln City F.C., Lincoln City. Career Campbell was born in Stevenston, Ayrshire. He gave up his chemistry studies to join English Football League First Division, First Division club Leicester City F.C., Leicester City, together with John Calder (footballer), John Calder, his teammate at junior club Dalry Thistle, in July 1931. He scored on his debut for the club, against Birmingham City F.C., Birmingham in December 1932, but despite a respectable goal return – 14 goals from 22 games – he failed to establish himself in the first team. Stevenston
Stevenston ( sco, Steenstoun, gd, Baile Steaphain) is a town and parish in North Ayrshire, Scotland. Along with Ardrossan and Saltcoats it is one of the "Three Towns", all of similar size, on the Firth of Clyde coast; the easternmost parts of Stevenston are about from western parts of Kilwinning, with the A78 trunk road running between the settlements (this is a 2004 bypass, with traffic between Irvine, Largs and Greenock previously directed through the centre of the three towns). Midland Football League (1889)
The Midland Football League was a semi-professional football league in England. It acted as a feeder league to the Football League for many years before merging with the Yorkshire League in 1982 to form the Northern Counties East League. History Founded in 1889, only one year after the Football League, the Midland League was the second league for professional clubs to be formed. Eleven clubs participated in the first season, 1889–90, four of whom (including the first champions, Lincoln City) would go on to achieve Football League status. The eleven founder members came from six counties.
