Johnny Brandon
Johnny Brandon (16 July 1925 – 26 July 2017) was an English singer and songwriter, popular during the 1950s, who recorded for a number of labels. His perennial backing group was known as The Phantoms. His early hits included "Tomorrow" and "Don't Worry". He also recorded versions of "Slow Poke" (re-titled as "Slow Coach") and "Painting the Clouds with Sunshine". Brandon later composed several Off-Broadway musicals, including '' Cindy'' (1964) and '' Billy Noname'' (1970). In 1979, he was jointly nominated for a Tony Award for Best Original Score for his work on ''Eubie!''. Brandon is also known for his involvement in the musicals ''Ain't Doin' Nothin' But Singin' My Song'' (1982) and ''Oh, Diahne!'' (1997). He released his first solo album, ''Then and Now'', in 2005 (albeit as a compilation of his old recordings combined with several that were new). Brandon died in July 2017 at the age of 92. Polygon Records
Polygon Records was a British independent record labels. History The label was started in 1949 as the Polygon Record Company Ltd. by Alan A. Freeman and Leslie Clark, who was anxious to control distribution of his daughter Petula Clark's recordings. (Those associated with it fondly referred to the company as "Dead Parrot Records".) The two opened offices on Grosvenor Place in the Sloane Square section of London, and arranged Clark's first recording session with Ron Goodwin and his orchestra and a vocal backing group called the Stargazers. Since Polygon's UK distribution was not yet in existence, the first 78rpm single - "You Go to My Head" backed with "Out of a Clear Blue Sky" - was released in Australia, followed by a cover of Teresa Brewer's "Music! Music! Music!" backed with "Blossoms on the Bough", both on the Esquire label. In fact, the first Polygon release in the UK was not by Clark but by Louis Prima and his orchestra. Slow Poke
"Slow Poke" is a 1951 popular song. Background "Slow Poke" is credited to three writers: Pee Wee King, Redd Stewart, and Chilton Price. Actually Price wrote the song in 1951, as she thought the song described her friend, King, very well. King recorded the song and Stewart did the vocal. Price gave rights to the other two in exchange for publicity, as she felt she knew nothing about the music distribution business. The song did so well commercially that when Price wrote the song " You Belong to Me" the next year, she felt she could do better by ceding partial credit for authorship to King and Stewart than trying to publicize the song herself, so that song as well was credited to King, Stewart, and Price, though Price was the sole author. Pee Wee King recording Pee Wee King's recording was issued by RCA Victor as catalog number 21-0489 (78rpm) and 48-0489 (45 rpm).
