John York (musician)
John York Foley (born August 3, 1946) is an American bassist and guitarist. He is best known for his work with the Byrds. History Prior to joining the Byrds, John York was a member of the Bees and the Sir Douglas Quintet, and also worked as a session musician for the Mamas & the Papas and Johnny Rivers. He was also the bassist in ex-Byrd Gene Clark's touring band. York joined The Byrds in September 1968, as a replacement for the band's original Bassist, bass player Chris Hillman. He remained with the group until September 1969, when he was replaced by Skip Battin. Despite only being with the Byrds for a year, his bass playing and singing appear on two of the group's studio albums, ''Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde'' and ''Ballad of Easy Rider'', as well as on the non-album single "Lay Lady Lay". He wrote "Fido", which appears on ''Ballad of Easy Rider'', and co-wrote "Candy", which is included on ''Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde''. Barry McGuire
Barry McGuire (born October 15, 1935) is an American singer-songwriter primarily known for his 1965 hit " Eve of Destruction". Later he would pioneer as a singer and songwriter of Contemporary Christian music. Early life McGuire was born in Oklahoma City and his family moved to California when he was two years old. After working as a commercial fisherman, and then going on to become a journeyman pipe fitter, McGuire got a job singing in a bar. In 1961, he released his first single called "The Tree", which was not a hit. He formed a duo with Barry Kane (d. 2013) called Barry & Barry. They performed original folk songs at The Ice House, a small folk club in Pasadena, California before moving on to The Troubadour in Hollywood in the spring of 1962. There they joined The New Christy Minstrels, a large folk group, and McGuire later sang lead vocals on their novelty single "Three Wheels on My Wagon". "She Don't Care About Time" is a song by American folk rock band the Byrds. It was released on a non-album single in October1965, as the B-side to "Turn! Turn! Turn!". The song was written by Gene Clark, the Byrds' main songwriter between 1964 and early 1966. "She Don't Care About Time" was recorded during sessions for the group's second album ''Turn! Turn! Turn!''. The song is on most of the band's hits compilations. Composition As was true with the Byrds' first album, the majority of group-penned compositions on "Turn! Turn! Paul Kennerley (born 1948) is an English singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer working in the American contemporary country music industry. Biography Paul Kennerley was born in Hoylake, Cheshire (now Merseyside), England in 1948. In 1976, he was living in London and working in advertising when he first heard country music — particularly, the song "Let's All Help the Cowboys Sing the Blues" by Waylon Jennings. "It really excited me," Kennerley recalls in his artist biography for Universal Music Group. "I immediately hunted down every Waylon record I could find." Paul Kennerley quit his job in advertising and allowed himself three months to develop his talents as a songwriter. Peter Charles Lewis (born July 15, 1945) is one of the founding members of the band Moby Grape. Three of his better known songs with Moby Grape are "Fall on You" and "Sitting by the Window" from the self-titled first Moby Grape album and "If You Can't Learn from My Mistakes" from ''Moby Grape '69''. Background Peter is the younger of the two sons of actress Loretta Young (1913-2000) and writer-producer Tom Lewis (d. 1988), and accordingly spent much of his childhood in Hollywood. ''The Papas & The Mamas'' is the fourth studio album by the American folk rock, vocal group the Mamas and the Papas, released in 1968. The most recognizable recording “Twelve Thirty (young girls are coming to the canyon)” was written by band member Cass Elliot in the early 60s when she first moved to California’s Laurel Canyon. This album also shown new light on Cass Elliot’s talent as a solo singer. About the same time this album was being released Cass had begun writing and performing her own songs as a solo artist. The Mamas & The Papas
The Mamas & the Papas were a folk rock vocal group formed in Los Angeles, California, which recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968. The group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. The group consisted of Americans John Phillips, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips and Canadian Denny Doherty. Their sound was based on vocal harmonies arranged by John Phillips, the songwriter, musician, and leader of the group, who adapted folk to the new beat style of the early 1960s. The Mamas & the Papas released five studio albums and 17 singles over four years, six of which made the ''Billboard'' top 10, and have sold close to 40 million records worldwide. Kim Vincent Fowley (July 21, 1939 – January 15, 2015) was the American record producer, songwriter and musician who was behind a string of novelty and cult pop rock singles in the 1960s, and managed The Runaways in the 1970s.
