John Wylie (actor)
John Wylie Thomas (December 14, 1925 – May 11, 2004) was an American actor, who appeared in many live theater performances, television programs, and films. He was born in Peacock, Texas, and died of natural causes in New York City. Wylie debuted as an actor in 1954 at the Alley Theatre in Houston, while he was working as a research chemist. He acted with that theatre's company until 1985 and directed some of its productions. Wylie created the role of Col. Doctor Otternshlag in the original Broadway production of ''Grand Hotel'' under the direction of Tommy Tune. He also portrayed Senator Norval Hedges in ''Born Yesterday'' on Broadway in 1989. Wylie toured in a 1987-88 production of ''Man of La Mancha'' in the starring role of Don Miguel De Cervantes/Don Quitxote. In 1993, he played Ebeneezer Scrooge in a production of ''A Christmas Carol'' at the Victoria Theatre in Dayton, Ohio. Peacock, Texas
Peacock is an unincorporated community in Stonewall County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 125 in 2000. Geography Peacock is located south of U.S. Highway 380 along FM 2211 in west central Stonewall County. The townsite was originally called Alluvia when it was established along the now defunct Stamford and Northwestern Railroad, which stretched from Stamford to Plainview. The rail line crossed the Salt Fork Brazos River just to the southwest of Peacock near the community of Oriana (now a ghost town). The Alley Theatre is a Tony Award-winning theatre company in Houston, Texas. It is the oldest professional theatre company in Texas and the third oldest resident theatre in the United States. Alley Theatre productions have played on Broadway at Lincoln Center, toured more than 40 American cities, and played internationally in Berlin, Paris, and St. Petersburg. Tommy Tune
Thomas James Tune (born February 28, 1939) is an American actor, dancer, singer, theatre director, producer, and choreographer. Over the course of his career, he has won ten Tony Awards, the National Medal of Arts, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Early life Tune was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to oil rig worker, horse trainer, and restaurateur Jim Tune and Eva Mae Clark along with his sister, Gracey. He attended Mirabeau B. Lamar High School, Houston and the Methodist-affiliated Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. He studied dance under Patsy Swayze in Houston. He also studied dance with Kit Andree in Boulder, Colorado. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama from the University of Texas at Austin in 1962 and his Master of Fine Arts in Directing from the University of Houston. ''Man of La Mancha'' is a 1965 musical with a book by Dale Wasserman, music by Mitch Leigh, and lyrics by Joe Darion. It is adapted from Wasserman's non-musical 1959 teleplay ''I, Don Quixote'', which was in turn inspired by Miguel de Cervantes and his 17th-century novel ''Don Quixote''. It tells the story of the "mad" knight Don Quixote as a play within a play, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition. Ebenezer Scrooge () is the protagonist of Charles Dickens's 1843 novella '' A Christmas Carol''. At the beginning of the novella, Scrooge is a cold-hearted miser who despises Christmas.
