John Whyte (pastoralist)
John Whyte (1826 – 16 February 1902) was a pastoralist and businessman in the early years of South Australia. He was born in Kinross, Scotland. He was a partner with James Counsell in the grocery wholesaler and Murray paddle steamer firm ''Whyte, Counsell & Co.'' (until 1884) as well as owner of significant sheep runs. He married the widow Louisa Heath, a sister of James Counsell, on 18 May 1854. Early life Whyte was born in Kinross in 1826. one of his schoolteachers was a nephew of Robert Burns, the Scottish poet, and schoolmates included Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman who later became Prime Minister of Great Britain. He served an apprenticeship in Dunfermline as a draper and milliner then opened his own shop in Galway, Ireland. His brother William Whyte had migrated to the Victorian gold rush, and John Whyte migrated to Adelaide in 1853, his first employment being in Louisa Heath's drapery in Hindley Street, Adelaide. John Whyte (politician)
John Whyte (January 4, 1838 – September 16, 1924) was a Scottish-born merchant and political figure in Quebec. He represented Mégantic in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1884 to 1886 as a Liberal. He was born in Dunfermline, the son of John Whyte and Elspeth Simpson. Whyte was educated in Fife and came to Canada East in 1858. In 1859, he married Harriet Donaldson Johnson. He worked at the Harvey Hill mine until 1862 and then was foreman at the mine in Sutton. He became a merchant at Leeds (later Saint-Pierre-de-Broughton) in 1865. He is widely recognised for his eccentric clothing and wild hair and his production of several cutting edge drum and bass tracks. John Blair Whyte
John Blair Whyte (1840 – 21 July 1914) was a Member of Parliament and Mayor in the Waikato region of New Zealand. Political career Whyte began his political career in 1877, when he became a member of the first Waikato County Council. Subsequently, he was the mayor of Hamilton from December 1878 to December 1879, when he resigned. In September 1879, Whyte was elected to the New Zealand Parliament, where he represented Waikato. When he was elected, he claimed to be politically independent and supportive of the liberal policies of George Grey and his Ministry, which was defeated in the same election. Whyte retired from parliament in October 1890. Subsequently, he was appointed to the Legislative Council on 22 January 1891 by the outgoing ministry of Harry Atkinson, one of seven such appointments (which included Atkinson himself). John Henry Whyte
John Henry Whyte (30 April 1928 in Penang, Malaya – 16 May 1990 in New York, United States) was an Irish historian, political scientist and author of books on Northern Ireland, divided societies and church-state affairs in Ireland. Early life Whyte was born in 1928 in Penang, Malaya. His father was manager of a rubber plantation on the mainland. Whyte's family left Malaya, and returned to Europe when he was three, eventually settling in Rostrevor, County Down, Northern Ireland. The Whytes are a well known County Down family recorded in the area since at least 1713. The Whyte family is said to have come to Ireland from South Wales with Strongbow in 1170 and settled in Leinster. Whyte was educated locally, at Ampleforth and Oriel College Oxford, from which he took a degree in Modern History in 1949. Kensington Hippodrome
The Kensington Hippodrome was a racecourse built in Notting Hill, London, in 1837, by entrepreneur John Whyte. Whyte leased of land from James Weller Ladbroke, owner of the Ladbroke Estate,Wormell, 1 and proceeded to enclose "the slopes of Notting Hill and the meadows west of Westbourne Grove" with a high wooden paling. The race course was not a financial success and it closed in 1842, the land being developed soon afterwards, as Ladbroke began building crescents of houses on Whyte's former race course. Jack Whyte (March 15, 1940February 22, 2021) was a Scottish-Canadian novelist of historical fiction. Born and raised in Scotland, he moved to Canada in 1967. He resided in Kelowna, British Columbia. Early life Whyte was born in Scotland on March 15th, 1940. He resided there until relocating to Canada in 1967. He was employed at a local school for one year, where he taught English. He subsequently worked as an author, musician, and actor. He and his wife, Beverley, initially lived in Alberta before settling in Kelowna in 1996. John Clotworthy Talbot Foster Whyte-Melville-Skeffington, 13th Viscount Massereene and 6th Viscount Ferrard DL (22 October 1914 – 27 December 1992) was a British politician and landowner. He was also Baron of Loughneagh (1660, Ireland), 6th Baron Oriel (1790, Ireland), and 6th Baron Oriel (1821, UK), and served as a Deputy Lieutenant for County Antrim. He succeeded his father in 1956 and regularly attended the House of Lords. Early years Educated at Eton College, in 1939 Whyte-Melville-Skeffington married Annabelle Kathleen, daughter of the late Henry D. Lewis, of Combwell Priory, Kent.
