John Whittaker (UKIP Politician)
John Whittaker (born 7 June 1945) is a former UK Independence Party (UKIP) politician who was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the North West England region from 2004 to 2009. Whittaker was born in Oldham, Lancashire. He was educated at Queen Mary University of London (BSc Physics, 1966) and the University of Cape Town (PhD Physics, 1980; BA Economics, 1982). He is a senior lecturer in economics at Lancaster University. His main research and teaching interests are in monetary policy and macroeconomics, and recently he has taken a particular interest in the problems associated with the single currency. He stood for UKIP in the Littleborough and Saddleworth by-election in 1995 where he came 5th out of 10 candidates behind the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. Whittaker was the UKIP's lead candidate in the North West for the European Parliament elections in 1999. John Edmondson Whittaker
John Edmondson Whittaker (1897 – c.9 December 1945) was a Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom. John Whittaker was born in Burnley in 1897. After working as a weaver in a cotton mill as a boy, Whittaker was educated at Burnley Municipal College and Sarisbury Court Church of England Teachers' Training College, Hampshire. He fought in the First World War. In 1921 he married Alice, daughter of Frank Marshall, and they had a daughter. He was headmaster of Rosegrove County Modern School, Burnley until his election as Member of Parliament for Heywood and Radcliffe at the 1945 general election, when he defeated the sitting Conservative MP, James Henry Wootton-Davies, by 892 votes. During his adult life he visited Russia twice, and broadcast on radio on the subject. John Macnaghten Whittaker
John Macnaghten Whittaker FRS FRSE LLD (7 March 1905 – 29 January 1984) was a British mathematician and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield from 1953 to 1965. Life Whittaker was born 7 March 1905 in Cambridge, the son of mathematician Edmund Taylor Whittaker and his wife, Mary Ferguson Macnaghten Boyd (grand-daughter of Thomas Jamieson Boyd). He was educated at St Salvator's School in St Andrews then Fettes College in Edinburgh. He then studied Maths and Physics at Edinburgh University from the age of 15, graduating MA in 1924. He followed this by three years at Trinity College, Cambridge, gaining a second MA in 1927. In 1927 started his academic career as an assistant lecturer in Mathematics at Edinburgh University. John Whittaker (born 14 March 1942) is a British billionaire. He is chairman of the Peel Group, a property business that mainly invests in North West England. John William Whittaker
John William Whittaker (13 January 1791 – 3 August 1854) was an English Anglican clergyman. He was born in Manchester to William and Sarah Whittaker, and studied at Bradford Grammar School before going to St John's College, Cambridge. Here he graduated B.A. in 1814, and proceeded to M.A. in 1817, B.D. in 1824, and D.D. in 1830. He was appointed as examining chaplain to Charles Manners-Sutton, Archbishop of Canterbury, who granted him the living of Blackburn, Lancashire in 1822. When Whittaker arrived in Blackburn Anglicanism was in a poor state. There were only three churches in the town, and these were poorly attended. Whittaker embarked on a programme of church building. He also developed education in the town by creating Sunday Schools, and became involved in local politics.
