John Welch (politician)
John Welch (October 28, 1805 – August 5, 1891) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1851 to 1853. Biography Born near New Athens, Ohio, Welch received a liberal schooling and graduated from Franklin College. He moved to Athens County in 1828 and settled in Rome Township. He engaged in the milling business. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Athens, Ohio, in 1833. He served as prosecuting attorney of Athens County 1841–1843. He served as member of the Ohio Senate 1845–1847. Welch was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress (March 4, 1851 – March 3, 1853). He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1852. He served as delegate to the Whig National Convention in 1852. He resumed the practice of law. John Welch (architect)
John Welch (1825-1894) was a Scottish-born American architect of Brooklyn, New York who designed numerous churches. He was one of the founders of American Institute of Architects. Life and career John Welch was born March 13, 1825 in Scotland, and was trained in architecture in Scotland and England."Obituary" in Architecture and Building' 21, no. 21 (November 24, 1894): 252. In 1849 he came to the United States, initially settling in Newark, New Jersey, where he opened his first office. Welch soon became known as an architect of churches, and in 1857 was among those invited by Richard Upjohn to form the American Institute of Architects. Johnny Welch
Johnny Welch (December 2, 1906 – September 2, 1940) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played in the major leagues for nine years. Welch died from tuberculosis at age 33 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Career From 1926-1931, Welch played for the Chicago Cubs. He pitched in 14 games total for the Cubs. From 1932-1936, he played for the Boston Red Sox. He hit his first home run during his first season with them. He pitched in 142 games for four years. In late 1936, Welch was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He pitched in nine games with them before retiring. As a hitter, Welch was better than average for a pitcher, posting a career .219 batting average (50-for-228) with 27 runs, 1 home run and 20 RBI in 175 games. John Welch (born February 17, 1963) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who most recently served as assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played professionally in New Zealand where in 1988, he earned Most Outstanding Guard and All-Star Five honors playing for Waitemata. Mexican Joe Rivers (born Jose Ybarra, March 19, 1892 – June 26, 1957) was a lightweight boxer whose ring career lasted from 1910 to 1923. Biography Rivers was born in Los Angeles on March 19, 1892 to Andrew Ybarra. He was a fourth generation Californian. He was Amerindigenous. On February 22, 1911, he defeated Jimmy Reagan (boxer), Jimmy Reagan, a former Bantamweight World Champion by a technical knockout in the thirteenth round of a scheduled twenty.
