John Waller (Virginia Politician)
John Waller (January 23, 1673 – August 2, 1754) was an American politician who served in the House of Burgesses in 1714, 1722, and 1742. His militia service under Captain John West saw him earn the title "Colonel", and a sheriff in both King and Queen (1699–1701) and King William (1701–1702) counties of Virginia. Biography Waller was born in England, the fifth child of Dr. John Waller of Newport Pagnell and Mary Pomfrett, who had been married on January 13, 1669. Baptized at Newport Pagnell on January 23, 1673, he migrated to Virginia as a young man in the closing years of the 17th century. This was before May 1, 1696, as on that date Waller bought 1039 acres of land in the Pamunkey Neck of King and Queen County, on the south side of the Mattaponi River. He established a plantation here which he named "Endfield", which still exists today as Enfield Sod, Inc. He was a slave owner. John Francis Waller
John Francis Waller (21 July 1809 – 19 January 1894) was an Irish poet, librettist and editor. Life The son of Thomas Maunsell Waller, of an Irish baronetical family, and Margaret Vereker, Waller was born in Finnoe, County Tipperary, studied at Trinity College, Dublin (BA, 1831) and was called to the Irish Bar in 1833. Under the pseudonym of "Jonathan Freke Slingsby" he wrote for the Dublin University Magazine and became its editor in 1845. He held the position of vice-president of the Royal Irish Academy from 1864 and was appointed Registrar of the Rolls Court in 1867. His older brother was Edward Waller (zoologist) 1804-1873. Works Besides editing the ''Dublin University Magazine'', he also edited the '' Imperial Dictionary of Universal Biography'' and contributed articles to ''Cassell's Biographical Dictionary''. John Stevens Waller (18 April 19243 September 2015) was an Anglican bishop who served as the seventh Bishop of Stafford, a suffragan bishop of the Diocese of Lichfield. Waller was educated at St Edward's School, Oxford and served during World War II with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR). When peace came, he studied at Peterhouse, Cambridge and Wells Theological College before being ordained: made deacon on Trinity Sunday 1950 (4 June) and ordained priest the following Trinity Sunday (20 May 1951) — both times by William Wand, Bishop of London, at St Paul's Cathedral. He began his career with curacies at Hillingdon and Tiverton before incumbencies at Strood and Harpenden. In 1979, he was appointed to the episcopate as Bishop suffragan of Stafford, a post he held for eight years. Elijah Craig (November 15, 1738 – May 18, 1808) was an American Baptist Religious minister, preacher, who became an educator and capitalist entrepreneur in the area of Virginia that later became the state of Kentucky. Sir John Waller, 7th Baronet
Sir John Stanier Waller, 7th Baronet (27 July 1917 – 22 January 1995) was an English author, poet and journalist. He was one of the group of Cairo poets during World War II. Life Waller was the son of Captain Stanier Waller and Alice Harris, who was a barmaid before she married; Captain Waller died of wounds from the First World War. John was educated at Weymouth College and Worcester College, Oxford. In 1939, he founded the magazine ''Kingdom Come'', which he edited. Waller served in the Middle East from 1941 to 1946 and was initially with the Royal Army Service Corps. Then he was posted to the Ministry of Information, where his sergeant-major was the poet G. S. Fraser. During his time in Cairo, he founded the Salamander Society with Keith Bullen and John Cromer, and launched ''Oasis: the Middle East Anthology of Poetry from the Forces'' in August 1943. John Francis "Red" Waller (June 16, 1883 – February 9, 1915) was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played for one season. He pitched for the New York Giants for one game on April 27 during the 1909 New York Giants season. He pitched one inning, allowing two runs, neither of them earned. An obituary of Waller in the ''Hartford Courant'' described him as "one of the greatest minor league pitchers that ever hurled a ball" but added that "failure to take care of himself cost him his chance for major league fame."
