John Waller (County Limerick MP)
John Waller was an MP for Limerick in the Irish House of Commons between 1790 and 1801 and subsequently MP for Limerick from 1801 to 1802. Early life Waller was born in 1762 or 1765, the eldest son of John Thomas Waller, MP, of Castletown and Elizabeth Bolton of Clonrush, Queen's County. Waller was educated at Harrow 1775–6; and matriculated from Trinity, Dublin 17 Apr. 1779, aged 17. He was further educated at Lincoln Inn 1783. He married Isabella Sarah Oliver, daughter of Silver Oliver, of Castle Oliver, and aunt of William Silver Oliver. Silver Oliver was MP for Limerick from 1768 to 1783. Waller was a descendant of Hardress Waller MP for County Limerick from 1639 to 1661. Waller was also Sheriff, Co. Limerick 1792–3. The 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers) was an infantry Regiment of the British Army, raised in 1793. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 94th Regiment of Foot to form the Connaught Rangers in 1881. History Formation The regiment was raised in Connaught by John Thomas de Burgh, 13th Earl of Clanricard as the 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers), in response to the threat posed by the French Revolution, on 25 September 1793. The regiment was sent to join the Duke of York's army in the Netherlands in summer 1794 as part of the unsuccessful defence of that country against the Republican French during the Flanders Campaign. William Massy (MP)
Lieutenant-General William Godfrey Dunham Massy (24 November 1838 – 20 September 1906) was a senior officer in the British Army. Early life He was born the eldest son of Major Henry William Massy (1816–1895) of Grantstown and Gonmaine, County Tipperary, Ireland and educated at Trinity College, Dublin, where he graduated B.A. in 1859. In the meantime he had joined the British Army as an ensign on 27 October 1854 and been promoted to lieutenant. Posted to the Crimea, he had arrived during the latter part of the Siege of Sevastopol. He was later under fire at the Battle of the Chernaya and commanded the grenadiers of the 19th Regiment of Foot at the assault of the Redan on 8 September 1855. During the last engagement he was seriously wounded by a ball which through his left thigh, shattering the bone. William Odell (MP)
William Odell (1752 – 1831) was an Irish Member of Parliament for Limerick. Early life William Odel was born in 1752, the eldest son of Captain John Odel of Fort William House Bealdurogy, County Limerick and his third wife, Jane Baylee of Lough Gur, County Limerick. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 1768. He was twice married, first to Aphra Crone (died Sept. 1814), daughter of John Crone of Doneraile, County Cork, with whom he had seven sons and five daughters. In 1818 he married Anna Maria Finucane of Ennis, niece and heir of Fr. James Finucane, Catholic priest and substantial landowner, of Kilfarboy, County Clare. Public life Odell held several offices apart from being a Member of Parliament. He was High Sheriff of County Limerick between 1789 and 1790. Sir Henry Hartstonge, 3rd Baronet (c. 1725 – 1797) was an Anglo-Irish politician and landowner who sat in the Irish House of Commons as member for Limerick County. He was a close political associate of his influential brother-in-law Edmund Pery, 1st Viscount Pery. He gave his name to Hartstonge Street, Limerick. Family He was born at Bruff, County Limerick, only son of Price Hartstonge, MP for Charleville, and Alice Widenham, daughter and co-heiress of Henry Widenham of Kildimo. Price was the eldest surviving son of Sir Standish Hartstonge, 2nd Baronet, but he died before his father, so Henry inherited the title on his grandfather's death in 1751. The Hartstonges, who were originally from Norfolk, inherited Bruff from the Standish family in the middle of the seventeenth century. Thereafter they lived mainly in Ireland, and over the course of the next century they became substantial landowners in Limerick, Cork and Tipperary.
