John Wallace (Australian Politician)
John Alston Wallace (1828 – 17 October 1901) was an Australian politician Born in Rutherglen near Glasgow to draper James Wallace, he became a draper and miner in Renfrewshire, but when his first wife died in 1852 he emigrated to Melbourne, where he briefly returned to mining before becoming a storekeeper in Bendigo. He had several stores, hotels and businesses in the area and was an investor in a number of companies. In 1865 he married Theresa Monahan, with whom he had eight children; he would later remarry Ada Reid. In 1873 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council for Eastern Province, switching to North-Eastern Province in 1882 and serving until his death at Elsternwick Elsternwick is an inner suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 9 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Glen Eira local government area. John Lasarus Williams (29 October 1924 – 15 June 2004), known as John L, was a Welsh nationalist activist. Williams was born in Llangoed on Anglesey, but lived most of his life in nearby Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. In his youth, he was a keen footballer, and he also worked as a teacher. His activism started when he campaigned against the refusal of Brewer Spinks, an employer in Blaenau Ffestiniog, to permit his staff to speak Welsh. John Wallace (8 April 1654 – 11 July 1733) was a Roman Catholic bishop who served as the Coadjutor Vicar Apostolic of the Vicariate Apostolic of Scotland and then of Lowland District, Scotland. Life Born in Arbroath, Forfarshire in 1654 and converted to the Catholic Church in 1690, he was ordained a priest on 3 April 1708. He was appointed the Coadjutor Vicariate Apostolic of Scotland and Titular Bishop of ''Cyrrhus'' by the Holy See on 30 April 1720. He was consecrated to the Episcopate on 21 September 1720. The principal consecrator was Bishop James Gordon. Chief John Wallace (Haida) was a Haida people master carver who was commissioned in 1931 by the US Department of the Interior to carve two, 8-foot totem poles, "The Raven" and "The Chief's Daughter." These are in the collection of the Interior Museum. He also worked in Hydaburg Totem Park in the Tongass National Forest, Alaska. Twenty-one totem poles were brought by the Civilian Conservation Corps and the US Forest Service to Hydaburg in the 1930s. Of these 21 poles, five were restored. The CCC and the US Forest Service commissioned the replication of 16 poles between 1939 and 1942. John Bruce Wallace is an American composer and avant-garde, free jazz, fusion, experimental, improvisational progressive metal guitarist. Early life John Bruce Wallace a/k/a jacewbal was born February 6, 1950, in Calais, Maine, United States. John exhibited an affinity for the performing arts at an early age, first in acting, playing the lead roles in grade school plays, later he expanded his interests to include singing solo for his grade school classmates. Encouraged by his father to take up trumpet, he began studying clarinet while in grade school. By high school John had found "the Guitar" and would perform almost daily during summers on his family's front porch for the traffic passing by. The Stargazers (1980s Group)
The Stargazers are a British rock and roll band. History The band was formed in 1981, some time after the earlier band of the same name had folded. Work on the new band by founder members Ricky Lee Brawn and Peter Davenport began in August 1980 and following a series of auditions Anders Janes, John Wallace and Danny Brittain were added to the line-up. After a succession of concerts and gigs during 1981, Muff Winwood secured The Stargazers a recording contract on the CBS Epic Records (now Sony) records. A total of four 7" records and one 12" album were released, with ''Groove Baby Groove'' (Davenport) reaching a chart high of 56, and a cover version of the old Louis Prima song "Hey Marie" just breaking into the top 100.
