John Whitridge Williams
John Whitridge Williams (January 26, 1866 – October 21, 1931) was a pioneering obstetrician at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Williams was also an acclaimed author, as he was able to contribute 137 publications regarding his findings. Early life John Whitridge Williams was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 26, 1866. He received his A.B. from the Johns Hopkins University in 1886. He received his M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1888. He then studied bacteriology and pathology at universities in Berlin, Vienna, Leipzig, Prague and Paris from 1888 to 1895. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Pittsburgh in 1915. He later returned to Heidelberg for a year of research and visited the University of Dublin in 1912. Career After serving under Dr. Howard A. Kelly, he was appointed as chief of Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. John William Williams
John William Williams (6 April 1827 – 27 April 1904) was a 19th-century Member of Parliament from Northland, New Zealand. Williams was born in Paihia on 6 April 1827. He was one of the sons of Marianne Williams and the pioneering New Zealand missionary Archdeacon Henry Williams. Williams was elected to represent the Bay of Islands electorate in the Auckland Provincial Council from 23 Jan 1863 to 13 Sep 1865. He represented the electorate in the House of Representatives from to 1879, when he was defeated. He married Sarah Busby (1835–1913), daughter of James Busby. The 1878 British Columbia general election was held in 1878. Political context Issues and debates Non-party system There were to be no political parties in the new province. The designations "Government" and "Opposition" and "Independent" (and variations on these) functioned in place of parties, but they were very loose and do not represent formal coalitions, more alignments of support during the campaign. "Government" meant in support of the current Premier; "Opposition" meant campaigning against him, and often enough the Opposition would win and immediately become the Government. The Elections British Columbia notes for this election describe the designations as ''"Government (GOV.) candidates supported the administration of G.A.B. Walkem. John Williams Wilson
John Williams Wilson (1798–1857), also known as Juan Guillermos, was an English- Chilean sailor and politician. Born in Bristol, he entered the newly founded Chilean navy in 1824 and rose to the rank of commander. He was appointed governor of Talcahuano (1849–1855). He supervised construction of Fuerte Bulnes in 1843, which the government intended for a settlement at the Strait of Magellan. Puerto Williams, founded in 1953, was named for the naval commander. Early life, education and migration John Williams Wilson was born in Bristol, England, to a family with a long seafaring tradition. He learned to sail with his father. As a young man, he traveled to South America to enter the newly organized Chilean Navy in 1824, directed by the British Lord Cochrane. Williams was soon promoted to the rank of lieutenant. His name was Hispanicized and he was known as ''Juan Guillermos.''
