Mitchell (UK Parliament Constituency)
Mitchell, or St Michael (sometimes also called St Michael's Borough or Michaelborough) was a rotten borough consisting of the town (or village) of Mitchell, Cornwall. From the first Parliament of Edward VI, in 1547, it elected two members to the Unreformed House of Commons. History The borough encompassed parts of two parishes, Newlyn East and St Enoder. Like most of the Cornish boroughs enfranchised or re-enfranchised during the Tudor period, it was a rotten borough from the start. Helston, sometimes known as Helleston, was a parliamentary borough centred on the small town of Helston in Cornwall. Using the block vote system of election, it returned two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons of England until 1707, then to the House of Commons of Great Britain until 1800, and to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom until the 1832 general election. The Reform Act 1832 reduced its representation to one member, elected by the first-past-the-post system. John Vivian (Liberal Politician)
John Cranch Walker Vivian (18 April 1818 – 22 January 1879) was an English Liberal politician from the Vivian family who sat in the House of Commons variously between 1841 and 1871. Career Vivian was the second son of the Lieutenant-general Sir Richard Hussey Vivian and his first wife Eliza De Crespigny, daughter of Philip Campion De Crespigny. Born at the Château de Rosamel in Frencq, France, he was educated at Eton College and joined the 11th Hussars as cornet in February 1836. He became a lieutenant in December 1837, captain in April 1840 and retired in 1842. Vivian was a deputy lieutenant and JP for Cornwall. Vivian was elected Member of Parliament for Penryn and Falmouth in July 1841 and held the seat until July 1847. He was elected MP for Bodmin in April 1857 and held the seat until May 1859, when he stood unsuccessfully at Truro. John Vivian (1750–1826)
John Vivian (1750 – 7 December 1826) was a Welsh industrialist of Cornish extraction. Himself a descendant of the Vivians of Trewan, Cornwall, he was the first member of this branch of the family to settle in South Wales, where he became the ancestor of the Vivian baronets and barons. He was the son of Reverend Thomas Vivian (died 17 March 1793) and Mary Hussey (1 February 1719 – circa 24 December 1807), of Truro St. Mary, Cornwall, who had been married on 30 November 1747 at Kenwyn, Cornwall. Career About 1800, John Vivian moved from Truro in Cornwall to Swansea in South Wales and assumed the post of managing partner in the copper works at Penclawdd and Loughor owned by the Cheadle Brasswire Company of Staffordshire. John Vivian, 4th Baron Swansea
John Hussey Hamilton Vivian, 4th Baron Swansea (1 Jan 1925 – 24 June 2005) was a British peer, sports shooter and lobbyist notable for his role in the debate over gun control in the United Kingdom. He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a degree in French and German. He succeeded his father to the Barony in 1934 and took his seat in the House of Lords in 1956. He was Deputy Lieutenant for Powys in 1962. In 1966, Vivian, as Lord John Swansea, represented Wales in the Commonwealth Games, where he took Gold in the Full Bore Rifle event.
