John Troy (hurler)
John Troy (born 19 January 1971) is an Irish retired hurler who played for club side Lusmagh and at inter-county level with the Offaly senior hurling team. Career Born in Lusmagh, County Offaly, Troy first came to prominence as goalkeeper with the Offaly minor team that won All-Ireland Minor Championship titles in 1986, 1987 and 1989. He later won back-to-back Leinster Under-21 Championships with the under-21 team, having already joined his brother Jim Troy on the senior team. Troy collected his first silverware with the team in 1990 when Offaly won the Leinster Championship before claiming the National League title the following year. He won a second provincial title in 1994 before ending the season as an All-Ireland Championship-winner after a defeat of Limerick in the final. Troy won a third provincial title the following year before claiming a second All-Ireland winners' medal in 1998. Offaly GAA
The Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Uíbh Fhailí) or Offaly GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Offaly. Separate county boards are also responsible for the Offaly county teams. The county hurling team won All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship (SHC) titles during the 1980s and 1990s but is no longer capable of competing at this level. The county football team won All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) titles during the 1970s and 1980s. Hurling Clubs Clubs contest the Offaly Senior Hurling Championship. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1994 was the 108th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Offaly won the championship, beating Limerick 3-16 to 2-13 in a sensational final at Croke Park, Dublin. Pre-championship Prior to the opening of the championship Kilkenny were installed as the favourites to retain the All-Ireland title for a third consecutive year. The last time they achieved this was in 1913, however, no final took place that year and Kilkenny were awarded the title as Limerick refused to play. Since then they failed to capture the 'three-in-a-row', in spite of having the opportunity in 1933, 1976 and 1984. This is a list of all the past winners of the official GAA GPA All Stars Awards in hurling since the first awards in 1971. As an insight to the prominent players of the 1960s, it also includes the unofficial "Cuchulainn" awards presented from 1963 to 1967 under the auspices of ''Gaelic Weekly'' magazine. Since 1971, the All Ordinaries Awards in hurling have been presented annually to a set of fifteen hurlers from that year's All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, who are seen to be deserving of being named in a "Team of the Year". The shortlist is compiled by a selection committee steering group, while the overall winners are chosen by inter-county players themselves. The All Star is regarded by players as the highest individual award available to them, due to it being picked by their peers. Leinster Minor Hurling Championship
The Leinster GAA Hurling Minor Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Electric Ireland Leinster GAA Hurling Minor Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players under the age of 17 in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year – except for a three-year absence during the Emergency – since the 1928 championship. The final, usually held on the last Sunday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during April, May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Hanrahan Cup.
