Sir John Tobin
Sir John Tobin (1763–1851) was a Manx merchant based in Liverpool. He was a merchant seaman who became a sea captain, making voyages both as a slave trader and as a privateer against French shipping. He was Mayor of Liverpool in 1819–1820. In later life he was involved in canal and railway development. Background He was born into the large family of Patrick Tobin (1735–1794) of Kirkbraddon ( Braddan, Isle of Man), a merchant with Irish background, and his wife Helen Breakill; his brother Thomas (1775–1863) was father of Sir Thomas Tobin (1807–1881). His sister Amelia married William Hillary in 1813, as his second wife. At sea Tobin went to sea young from Liverpool. By 1793 and the outbreak of the French Revolutionary Wars he was master of the ''Gipsy'' or ''Gipsey'', a privateer. John Tobin (28 January 17707 December 1804) was a British playwright, who was for most of his life unsuccessful, but in the year of his death made a hit with ''The Honey Moon''. Other plays were ''The Curfew'' and '' The School for Authors''. Life Tobin was born in Salisbury, the son of James Tobin, a merchant, and his wife, born Webbe, the daughter of a rich West India sugar planter. George Tobin was his elder brother. Another brother, James Webbe Tobin (died 1814), an acquaintance of Charles Lamb and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, went to Nevis. About 1775 the father set out with his wife to Nevis in the West Indies. The children were left behind, and John was placed for a while under the care of Dr. Richard Mant, the father of Richard Mant the bishop, at Southampton. John Thomas Tobin (May 4, 1892 – December 10, 1969) was an American right fielder in Major League Baseball. He played in the Federal League (FL) for the St. Louis Terriers (1914–1915), and for the St. Louis Browns (1916, 1918–1925), Washington Senators (1926), and Boston Red Sox (1926–1927) of the American League (AL). He led the FL in hits in 1915, and he led the AL in triples in 1921. A native of St. Louis, Tobin batted and threw left-handed. John Patrick Tobin (January 8, 1921 – January 18, 1982) was an American professional baseball player who appeared in 84 games, primarily as a third baseman, during his one season in Major League Baseball for the Boston Red Sox. Born in Oakland, California, he batted left-handed, threw right-handed, and was listed as tall and . His brother Jim was a major league pitcher from 1937 to 1945. Tobin attended Saint Mary's College of California. His pro career began in 1942 in the Red Sox' organization, then he was called to World War II military service and joined the United States Navy, missing the 1943 and 1944 seasons. Hiram Bond
Hiram Bond was born May 10, 1838 in Farmersville, Cattaraugus County, New York and died in Seattle March 29, 1906. He was a corporate lawyer, investment banker and an investor in various businesses including gold mining. His family are descended from William Bond (Massachusetts politician) an early 17th-century immigrant from Bury St. Edmunds in East Anglia. He was the son of Hiram Bond M.D. and Almeda Slusser and was married to Laura Ann Higgins. He had two children- Louis Whitford Bond born in New York City, New York in 1865 and Marshall Latham Bond born in Orange, Virginia in 1867. John Michael Tobin
John Michael Tobin (1835 or 1841–1898) was an officer in the Union Army who received the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Malvern Hill during the American Civil War. Biography John Tobin was born in County Kilkenny, Ireland, in 1835 or 1841. He was commissioned as an officer of the 9th Massachusetts Infantry from Boston Massachusetts in June 1861. He served as regimental adjutant from January to August 1862, and mustered out with his regiment as a captain in June 1864. Tobin received the Medal of Honor for his actions on July 1, 1862 at the Battle of Malvern Hill during the Peninsula Campaign.
